What do you buy the man with everything?

MozzchopsThirty · 04/07/2021 21:53

DP says he doesn't want anything for his birthday, but he spoils me and I really want to buy him something

Normally I'll just buy something silly off Etsy or something for his bar but this year I'm stuck

Some kind of subscription? Pasta, chocolate, coffee, cheese, salami…

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 04/07/2021 21:57

I'd buy nothing.

and I have bought nothing. it's fine

hoppiy · 04/07/2021 21:58

Cheese hamper

RosesAndHellebores · 04/07/2021 21:58

There's usually a book dh wants; or theatre or concert tickets.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 04/07/2021 21:59

Nothing - take him out for lunch/ dinner etc

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 04/07/2021 21:59

Event/experience tickets.

MozzchopsThirty · 04/07/2021 21:59

He's not into theatre, and doesn't read

We're still waiting to see a comdian we booked 2 years ago

Cheese hamper might be a nice idea

Paul Smith socks
Books
Posh chocolate
Cheese
Vinyl records if he's got a record player

Cazzovuoi · 04/07/2021 22:00

We usually go for a nice overnight in a posh hotel. I can literally buy nothing for him. He wants nothing!

Melitza · 04/07/2021 22:02

I once bought a man a book all about cheese.
He loved it.
If he's into wine I would get him a really good bottle of red and some nice cheese.

MozzchopsThirty · 04/07/2021 22:02

@Cazzovuoi were married to the same man 😂

bettertimesarecomingnow · 04/07/2021 22:10

Nice pants? D&g maybe - they last and look good 😉

Limited / special edition whisky for his bar? To keep not to drink.

My dp is like yours and so far the things I have bought him are (mainly country to be fair)

Shotgun - old wooden one which he loved

Sight for his rifle

Photo Canvas of the beach where we went on our first date

Leather monogrammed case for his Apple Mac 💻

Leather monogrammed key ring for the car

Really good wellies - can't spell them...!
Le Chameau i think!

Shepherds crook with antler head

Whisky to keep as an investment

He likes anything with a label so designer clothes you'd think would be easy, but he's fussy so it's not....!

Night away at a hotel is always good!

MozzchopsThirty · 04/07/2021 22:13

So I looked at experience days

I was thinking a wine tasting & nite away???
Sound ok?

I bought my husband a home brewing kit for his birthday. I kind of regret it now as he has really embraced this new hobby and ordered loads of extra bits. For 5 or 6 weeks the house was taken over of big buckets of beer at various stages in the brewing process but thankfully he finished off his shed this week and he's moved everything out there!

SometimesIFeedTheSparrows · 05/07/2021 10:42

Pizza oven
Socks or pants with the cat/dog/your face on
Alexa for the car

If you are thinking of experience days and in the SE look at Mercedes Benz World - right next to a posh hotel that does afternoon teas and you can drive all sorts of cars.

RosesAndHellebores · 05/07/2021 10:48

But @SometimesIFeedTheSparrows the man with everything may already have one or something better. That hotel's not great imo.

I usually just buy DH a small pack of really good quality hankies or a tie! Things that are always welcome - fortunately he likes a nice hanky providing it is neatly pressed with sharp creases in each of the 8 folds Grin. He bought his own wanky car without consultation and each year's Wisden arrives anyway.

In answer to the op, I don't think I could bear to live with a man who didn't read or enjoy music and the theatre. If that were the case I wouldn't have the man I wanted.

BarbaraofSeville · 05/07/2021 10:54

Wine tasting and a night away is more than fine if he likes wine and travel.

Don't over think it and don't feel obliged to match his spending. If he already 'has everything' he probably just buys what he wants when he wants it, isn't particularly bothered about 'being spoilt' and would probably rather you didn't give him something silly from Etsy for the sake of it.

If he likes food or drink, something treaty like a cheese hamper would probably be good though.

lurkingdh · 05/07/2021 10:55

As others have said - don't buy him anything.

Take him out for a meal or cook him a nice one at home (or have one delivered if that would make it more special - we've had good results from www.dishpatch.co.uk/).

Experience days are IMHO along the right lines - at this stage it's better to gift memories rather than things, but it's awkward actually booking them in and fitting them around busy lives at the best of times, never mind at the mo with all the shifting restrictions and rules.

Zarene · 05/07/2021 11:07

I this year I'm considering a (small) investment for DH in a company who's products he loves, but which he doesn't need any more of.

It's a bit random but hopefully he'll appreciate being an owner of it!

Twinkie01 · 05/07/2021 11:16

Its hard isn't it. DH usually gets trainers and sportswear but he has enough now.

I bought DH a really posh Mahjong set for our WA. Thought we could play together or with the kids. I haven't given it to him yet but am hoping he is going to like it.

Before I've got him an Apple Watch, aftershave, a photography course, a bbq smoker thing, a leather bbq apron, bbq tools and a men's fitness subscription.

Skysblue · 05/07/2021 11:19

Super comfy socks / pants? Like bamboo or cashmere…

Funky art…

Pizza oven 😬

slug · 05/07/2021 11:36

I'm a big fan of subscriptions. They're the gift that keeps on giving

Cheese subscription

Gin

Quite cheap whisky

Cocktails

BarbaraofSeville · 05/07/2021 11:47

I'm not one for subscriptions and think most of them are a waste of money, for example nearly £30 for three small pieces of cheese or cocktails priced like they were being served in a fancy bar?

However, for gin fans, the gin one seems much better value as you get a bottle of craft gin, plus several mixers and cocktail syrups, plus snacks and a magazine.

ShowerOfShite · 05/07/2021 11:54

I've just bought a male friend an hamper of edible insects.

MozzchopsThirty · 05/07/2021 12:49

@BarbaraofSeville that's it exactly, he genuinely doesn't want anything and thinks my Etsy gifts are lame Grin

I like the look of the craft gin, he loves gin

I'm going to book a surprise meal out with friends too
