Dog friendly places

Hi, I recently got the puppy I've been waiting my whole life for - picture added as I know some may want to see 😊

I was in the garden centre the other day and noticed someone had their dog with them. It never would have occurred to me that he would be welcome there. The only shops I ever think would be happy for well behaved non-service dogs to visit are pet shops.

Experienced dog owners, where else would my dog (generally speaking) be welcome to come with me?

When I worked at hobbycraft they let dogs in. Also pets at home.

Pets at home and old (man) type pubs are the only places I would've thought of before. We went to a beautiful restaurant last week on holiday with our pup who was treated like royalty, we were treated pretty good too.

Pets at home and some garden centres
But not all garden centres

Depends where you live. Edinburgh just opened a dog friendly shopping mall and most pubs are dog friendly

ErrolTheDragon · 04/07/2021 21:49

Some of the outdoors shops, not sure which - trespass and/or mountain warehouse do. The one I noticed sold dog raincoats and had a water bowl and dogs welcome sign.

I find this can be town dependent. Where I live dogs are allowed in most cafes, pubs, outside restaurants, and loads of shops. Waterstones, jigsaw, John Lewis in nearby town, post offices, WH Smith's, dogs trust charity shops, jewellers, nail bars, paperchase, and all the smaller non chain shops. Hairdressers and barbers too.

I find bigger cities to be less dog friendly though.

Lots of hotels are dog friendly, some - like hotel du vin - will provide a bed, blanket, dog bowl for an extra £10.

Waterstones are ok with dogs and lots of bookshops. Some cafe’s, some shops. I always ask first. Big shopping malls are generally not ok unless the dog can be carried. John Lewis are dog friendly too :)

Just come back from a holiday in the Lake District and our dog got into most shops and restaurants. Lakeland was one place he wasn’t allowed a few years ago but they changed their policy a few weeks ago and now allow dogs. He’s gorgeous by the way! 🐾

And cafe Nero's are all dog friendly.

Loccitane, most shoe shops, Anthropologie, Halifax bank, NatWest, joules, our church also does a pet friendly mass every now and again!

MadisonAvenue · 04/07/2021 22:05

Coffee #1 are dog friendly if you have one nearby.

Garden centres do tend to be dog friendly in my y experience. Lots of ideas here too www.dogfriendly.co.uk/

warmfluffytowels · 04/07/2021 23:08

I live in the Lake District and dogs are welcome pretty much everywhere except food shops (butchers etc). They're also allowed in cafés, pubs and restaurants.

Shops I take mine into include Fat Face, Joules, all pet shops and garden centre type places, Rohan, John Lewis, Mountain Warehouse (and most other outdoorsy type shops), book shops and more.

He loves it - especially if there are treats behind the counter Smile

There was a dog in Currys/pc World yesterday - that suprised me.
I have taken Ddog into Go Outdoors. I asked first.
My local non food shops (pharmacy, post office, charity shop and bike shop will all allow well behaved dogs, but I would leave her at home normally as she tends to be a bit excited and its hard to focus on what I am buying while trying to get her to stay quietly at heel.

My parents went away last week and were surprised at how easy it was to find restaurants (inside eating) and hotels that accepted their old and very hairy German Shepherd! I love dogs but I'm not sure I agree with them being allowed to inside restaurants - I have enough problems with my own hair falling out and appearing in my food without stray dog hairs in there too! Starbucks is dog friendly too. Many independent cafes are too. I train my dogs to fall asleep tucked under the table whilst we are in a cafe.

LaurieFairyCake · 05/07/2021 07:57

Pretty much all of Cornwall/Dorset/Peak District/Lake District/Devon

Everywhere I've been on holiday with double dogs Grin

Go outdoors are pet friendly

YelloYelloYello · 05/07/2021 08:53

Waterstones, H&M, almost all the independent shops and cafes round here.

Some places like Superdrug allow dogs who are carried in your arms or in carriers.

Nothing nicer than having a little potter through a town with your dog and seeing a shop you want to explore - and actually being able to!
