How do you manage the summer holidays? I'm newly single after a long relationship (no dc) and this is my first summer hols by myself, I'm finding it a bit intimidating to think of the time stretching ahead. I've done the usual of booking some friends in at varying times so I have some things to look forward to but any tips?

Oh Brilliant, thank you! I've been looking for some holiday options

I'm so sorry about your relationship.

I'm enjoying waking up later and having nice breakfasts without rushing. I bought myself a pretty plate and matching cup.

I run three times a week and go to yoga twice. I am treating myself to a coffee after each class. I've also started reading again.

I've made a resolution to really clean out one room of the flat a week.

I go for a walk most evenings too. I'm not doing any work until August (I'm Scottish, we're already on holiday).

I hope you enjoy your holidays too Flowers

Thank Dolly I like the nice breakfast idea and I think I definitely need to structure in some exercise too like a routine.

I don’t live alone (DH and 2DC to run around after) but this is how I always dream of spending my summer:

Lovely meet ups with friends
A nice holiday somewhere hot
Proper sort and tidy of my house
Make my garden look nice again after being neglected for a year
Finish one of the many crafting projects I’ve started
Read a book because I want to instead of needing it to plan
Spend a day lying on the sofa and watching films

I used to teach abroad most summers (off from end of June until Sept)

Painted my house or did other jobs in the holidays.

Got all these on my list- I think it is just the thought of that amount of time and the day to day mundane things and how to give myself some structure. I don''t want to fall into sadness or being depressed. I have a list of jobs and also some bits and bobs like meeting friends etc but it's more the routine stuff that is worrying me

What about setting yourself a daily activity so nothing feels mundane? Each day have something you’ll definitely do. It could be going out somewhere nice or just baking a cake.

I like this idea! I do like crafting and I have set myself a reading challenge too- as well as some fitness goals

Fitness goals are good - particularly classes where you get to chat with people before or after. Although covid might get in the way group travel works well like Explore www.explore.co.uk/

That’s good @crochetmonkey74

I’m sure you will love your 6 weeks off!

DifficultBloodyWoman · 05/07/2021 14:13

Well, I’m married now but when I was single I used to love the summer holidays. I would have a few days to breath and then take a longer than two weeks holiday in another country and try to feel like a local as much as possible. I went to Florence and did a four week art course. I went to Villefranche and studied French for 5 weeks. I went to a cooking school in Paris for two weeks. Obviously, not all in the same year. 😂 I met lots of people and enjoyed being on my own after being ‘on’ for the school year. I always wanted to do a surfing class too (in Biarritz) but sadly never got around to it before meeting DH.
