Best sites for decluttering and downsizing

I'm moving and going to downsize a little bit (whether I end up buying the house I've offered on is another matter entirely... but it's prompted me to start decluttering regardless).

I've done lots of selling previously on Ebay, but it always seems such a hassle these days. I've put some things on at cheaper prices but need collecting and end up with endless stupid queries and people bidding who can't actually collect ! I don't even bother doing auctions, just always at a buy it now / make an offer price.

I've used Gumtree previously, but only really for stuff that I've got rid of free of charge. Again end up with everyone's life stories when i just want it gone, and last time ended up with a load of abuse from someone because I had given away something to someone else.

What is Facebook marketplace like? I don't have a Facebook account (yeah... I know!) But could easily make one but have heard from other people they get similar stupid questions and people messing about.

Any other options I could think about using? Like everyone else I want decent buyers who can pick things up without endless back and forth!

I like Facebook market place although no shows are a real problem

Ziffit is good for books, CDs and video games if you just want the stuff out of the house - they pay pennies but it's convenient and fast and they have a courier service that will pick up from your house. We Buy Books pays better.

Not heard of Ziffit before, will check it out. I've used we buy books before but they are very selective about what books they'll accept.

@DaisyDreaming My sis in law said lots of no shows and people messing about on FB marketplace too. Especially the ones who give you their life story about why they can only afford 3 quid for something you've asked 10 for...

I've been much more successful selling things on Facebook Marketplace than on Gumtree (though I've sold quite a lot on both). I try to price stuff so that I'll get some interest, but not too much. Too cheap and the volume of messages is overwhelming (and includes more time-wasters). I've found that it becomes clearer who the no-show types are once you've used it for a while, e.g. the ones who don't respond promptly, or who send monosyllabic replies to everything. Those who are polite, write full sentences, and respond quickly tend to be pretty reliable in my experience. I'd also recommend putting all relevant information (e.g. dimensions of things where the size matters, and postcode for collection) on the ad, so that you don't have to waste time responding to questions about them. It has the added bonus of making it clear when someone hasn't read the ad properly, and is more likely to be wasting your time. Also, don't give your exact address until a sale and collection time has been agreed, so that you have some certainty over when people are going to show up. Good luck selling!

I haven't sold on marketplace but I've given stuff away for free. I've bought on there though.

I decluttered twice in 17 months and it was a combination of charity, skip and marketplace. It is good to just get it gone.
