Anyone know of a hairdresser that actually listens?

I asked for medium to light brown and it's now almost black. It's not the first time this has happened (with different hairdressers) why are hairdressers so bad at listening?

On to the next one. Don't they want repeat customers?

I've also had some terrible experiences in the past OP - Flowers, it's annoying!

If you're ever in or near Essex I can DM you my hairdresser's details. It's taken me a long, long time to find her but she is a genius with colour. I have vivid brights (rainbow, usually) but she is also very talented with natural colours. Worth every single penny and I am just grateful she's my age so I never have to change hairdresser again! Long way from Manchester but I'd say totally worth it Grin

@smudgemylife

You mentioned you're in Manchester, can recommend house of finesse (both locations) and muse hair as being fab at colouring, especially balayage and highlights. Might save you a trip to London of you're willing to drive across the city instead.
Thank you. I'm on the metro link so can get to Whitefield / Alti. Will have a look.

I found my recent hairdresser through The Good Salon Guide online when we moved and have been with her 14 years.

So I'm going to wash my hair every day with an anti dandruff shampoo and hope it strips out some of the black and make it look less harsh. Then I'm going to put a semi perm dark blonde over the highlights to try and make them look less harsh. Other than that I think I'm stuck with growing it out fir a few months and hoping the black gradually fades Confused.

Baby shampoo strips/lightens colour of you hate it op. I managed to turn mine from black to gingery brown in a few months using Johnson's baby.

Personally I'd try and find a colour corrective specialist rather than put more color on it myself. Good idea to leave it a while to settle and fade a bit.

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor Thankyou for mentioning the good salon guide, I’d not heard of it before.

I’ve just found a salon quite local to me with rave reviews that I’m going to try.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 04/07/2021 11:33

@Chidjireta hope it works out okSmile

Did u not go over colour swatches? I've not had my hair coloured for years but when I did get it done when I was younger we would discuss and look at colour swatches so we both knew what I was looking for.

Beetlebrooker · 04/07/2021 13:10

I used the same hairdresser for years, was always perfectly okay until the day I dared go back and ask her to thin the ends a little, as my hair is thick and she'd cut it a bit blunt and left me looking like Dora the Explorer. She appeared to be in a foul mood that day and absolutely butchered it, cutting great chunks out of the lengths so I went on holiday to Cyprus with a rats nest on my head.

Had to have it cut short when I got back before I had to face work. In the 10 years since, I've had bad cut after bad cut after bad cut, and one absolute colour fiasco which caused me to lose 6 inches off the length - NOBODY. LISTENS.

I'd rather go and have a tooth out than go the hairdresser, yet every few months I go to a new one, feeling pathetically hopeful that this time I won't come out with yet another triangular, angled bob. I have curly frizzy hair that I cannot make straight and shiny every day! Stop cutting me a triangle!

I've got an appointment this week. Mid-brown please, a few highlights, cut into divided layers for a low-maintenance look that I can (within reason) wash and wear.

I once paid £100 to see a curly hair specialist. She advised me to wear it straight and sent me out with another smoothed angled bob. FFS.

Melissa Timperley in the NQ might be worth a try.

peridito · 04/07/2021 14:17

@Beetlebrooker what are divided layers please ?

and no ,they don't listen/I'm not explaining clearly enough .Maybe a pic is the way to go .

sigh ....

No. And colour swatches are something I will insist on when I'm brave enough to try a new hairdresser / grown this crap colour out / its faded.

Apparently washing it for 10 days with visene / head and shoulders. Then I can dye it in 4 weeks. I'm stuck for a month though 😡

I have "shit hair" the type that's wavy and straight at the same time, and fails to hold a style. I find many hairdressers are now self-employed and just rent a chair, even in the swankiest places. So I ask for the excellent stylist I had last time and they quite often have moved on already. It's very frustrating. I think there's only one salon in my area that actually employ their stylists. I don't have my hair coloured anymore but finding a good stylist is very much trial and error.

igelkott2021 · 04/07/2021 18:58

OP why don't you go back, ask to see someone senior and get them to do the colour correction? They didn't do what you asked and it doesn't sound like they tried very hard. Up to them to fix it for free.

You still don't have to go back afterwards :)
