Independent human beings who can exist without you and don't need you for everything anymore, so why does it actually hurt when you succeed? - sad Smile

I'm looking at you DS1, 19, just back from 1st year at Uni and who has suddenly become a grown up.

Just off to grab DS2 and stop time Grin

It’s bittersweet isn’t it?
I look at teen DS and feel so proud of the young man he is becoming, yet sometimes I yearn for the days when he would sit on my lap and hold my hand and look at me like I was the most important person in his universe.
What has helped me recently is taking more time to invest in me. I took the plunge and finished my degree which has lead to a complete career change. I now have a job that I love and feels worthwhile. This would not have been possible when DS was younger.
I also now exercise regularly and do more things that make me happy.
For years I concentrated solely on my family and lost myself a bit in the process. I was just ‘mum’. Now I have the time to enjoy a different era of my life in the knowledge that I have raised a happy and competent human being.

Well... On holiday atm with my big grown up independent DC. It's lovely and a bit nostalgic.
In mid 20s now but the criteria for keeping them happy on a holiday apparently haven't changed much since they were teenagers, lots of good food at frequent intervals and some daredevil type of activity Grin

My eldest is 12 and I still feel like the first emoji :o

Have we just not hit the heart rending ages yet or am I a cold hearted mum?

Seasidemumma77 · 03/07/2021 17:29

My heart swells with pride as I watch my 2 adult dc making their way in the world. Yet, while I look forward to seeing the younger 2 dc spead their wings, I can't help but feel sad that time is going by far too fast.
