Post C section issues (years later) adhesions?

Hello all,

I know this is more health related but you don't get as many replies there. I have posted about similar but wanted to know if anyone has experienced similar.

So, I had my second c section 2 years ago. It was a little more complicated than expected, they struggled to get him out because I'm petite, I vomitted throughout and haemorrhaged so needed a blood. transfusion. My partner who is a doctor watched and said he's never seen someone so 'dug around' during a c section.

Anyway, 2 years on I have a constant tenderness and soreness in my lower tummy/pelvic area. Ovulation is a trigger and for 8 days I get extreme bloating, pelvic pain worsens and my breasts are sore (pregnancy sore) for 8 days and actually effects my sleep.
I also find that area generally tender and regularly bloat.
Also, since my section (sorry tmi) I feel it's almost harder to pass wind and have a bowel movement. I don't so much have an issue with passing wind but more like I need to push extra (weird I know).
I've thought of IBS but I don't have bouts of diahorrhea, I go to the toilet once a day in the morning (although a little soft). I don't get any cramps and eating doesn't seem to be a trigger.
I have the mirena coil so don't currently bleed during a period.
I've had a scan which showed a cyst that has now resolved.
Has anyone else experienced similar? I'm waiting to see gynae.

Yes I had this - it started within a few months of my c section although on the face of it my c section was uncomplicated (breech baby) - I am also petite

I found it very painful to go to the loo and ovulation pain was unreal - I'd bloat to the point I looked 3 months pregnant and it was so painful I often couldn't walk and I had to take a sick day from work

I begged for an ultrasound and they couldn't see anything wrong

As soon as I tried to conceive again though - I ended up with a ruptured ectopic - the surgeon said there was a lot of adhesions and scarring which they tried to clear - adhesions had stuck my ovary to my uterus wall too which they released - he said my other tube looked "healthy" but I lost that one too to another ruptured ectopic a few months later

As soon as my tubes were gone I no longer have any pain when ovulating/going to the loo

I know a lot of people who have experienced the same following a c section

I didn't have symptoms but when I had a cystectomy they look quite shocked when they told me how many adhesions I have. I think its a bit of a mess in there.

Same here, lots of adhesions and passing wind/poo really hurts at times too. Coughing and sneezing causes a sharp shooting pain in my ovary area too. All because of adhesions.

Thank you for the replies.
@ivfgottwins sorry to hear how much you suffered! Did you find ovulation pains lasted a while? Mine seems to be around 8 days and I'm only a size 6/8 but I bloat to the point I look 5 months pregnant. Did the pain stay constant for you or come and go? Really sorry to hear about the complications you suffered!

@FindingMeno are they going to do anything with the adhesions or leave them because you don't experience symptoms?

@stickythighs how did you find out about your adhesions? When I sneeze I sometimes hold my tummy because it feels like I'm going to 'pull a muscle'

@Lan2020

From what I remember it lasted several days gradually getting worse and there would be the one day which was the worst and after that would decrease until the next month - it was constant at its worst

FindingMeno · 03/07/2021 20:29

@Lan2020 leave them I guess.
I'm kind of thinking that any chopping about inside creates new adhesions anyway, so best left.

FindingMeno · 03/07/2021 20:31

@Lan2020 actually I say I had no symptoms but I identify with some things such as a feeling like I was going to pull a muscle sometimes when I moved suddenly sometimes or sneezed, but I'd always thought that was the cyst.

I am fairly certain I have adhesions due to abdo surgery, scar is same place as a c section but for cancer.

Every now and again I get awful pain when I need a Poo and it only passes when I have been. I also get pains if I shift incorrectly or sneeze without clenching.

Tbh it’s not as bad or regular as it used to be but has never gone. My surgery was 16 years ago!

They took my womb, tubes, cervix, etc, all I have left is my ovaries….

ivfgottwins · 03/07/2021 20:58

I had an "adhesionectomy" carried out when they removed my ruptured tube and ectopic pregnancy it improved the subsequent ovulation but still lost my other tube a few months later

Lemonmelonsun · 04/07/2021 14:59

Weird, is there there any way to check for adhesions if they can't see them in scans? Without opening one up how can they check?

No as adhesions can't be see on an ultrasound- they might be visible I suppose if you had a HSG done abs it showed your tubes were blocked/misshapen etc but both my tubes were clear on my scans and yet my abdomen was full of adhesions

Hi did you ever get to the bottom of this? Iv had 2 sections - 4 years ago and i am in agony every month when i ovulate. Exactly the same swelling and lasts atleast 7 days. The muscle above my section completely swells and it is sore to touch. Thanks, searching on here for help!!
