Help with foxes

We are having real trouble with foxes on our garden, both front and back.
We have removed everything that could be attractive to them and tried sonic deterrents, but the problem continues

The big issue this this is really stressing my husband out, it's in his mind every morning, he hates it so much. If this continues to be a problem I know he will want to move. He can't relax in the garden at all.

Does anyone have any tips that's actually worked for them. We have put up sonic deterrents and motion sensor lights.

What, specifically, is your problem with the foxes? The solution will depend on the nature of your problem.

Eg, we have hens, I've never had a problem with foxes although living in the countryside I know they are about. This spring there has been a spate of problems with a fox taking chickens in the village. Therefore it is now a problem to me and I have to take action to safeguard my chickens. Said fox has now been dealt with.

They poo everywhere. It absolutely stinks.

Presumably you don't have dogs then?
Well cleaning up after them takes the mess and the smell away, but I appreciate that is frustrating to have to do.
What about physical barriers?

Flaunch · 03/07/2021 10:14

Buy a flat?

wtfisgoingonhere21 · 03/07/2021 10:15

Resting havoc with my three dogs op who literally wine to go out constantly because they've got the scent now.

We've picked up fox pop a few times now and sprayed the area with Keyes fluid to get rid of the whiff but it's sending the dogs (and my dh)mad.

I'm going to set up fox cam

2021hwg · 03/07/2021 10:15

Of course we clean up after them but the smell lingers and it's not a pleasant job.

I'm sure a neighbour is probably feeding them but it's hard to prove

The noise at night can be horrible as well, especially if they are mating

Well even if you could ‘prove’ a neighbour is feeding foxes there’s no law against it. I feed foxes and have done for years. But very discreetly and at a set time nightly, they know this and just pop by.

They have to poo somewhere, they’re wild animals. Have you tried chilli paste and garlic in a spray? They don’t like it. My dad tried that when some foxes looked like they might move in under the decking (i so would have let them move under the decking if it had been my choice Blush)

Flaunch · 03/07/2021 10:20

Foxes only mate in January/early February.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 03/07/2021 10:21

You won’t be hearing mating noises now.

2021hwg · 03/07/2021 10:22

Well it's lots of screeching and screaming anyway

When you say “you’ve removed everything that might be attractive to them” what do you mean?

SmidgenofaPigeon · 03/07/2021 10:24

I don’t hear a peep out of ‘mine’ this time of year. It’s quite a quiet time for them.

2021hwg · 03/07/2021 10:25

We don't have a water source or anywhere obvious to hide. No kids toys left in garden and so on.

I hear mine constantly. There's a family with youngish Cubs still who's territory I dare to live in. They wake me up every night / morning barking, screeching etc
SmidgenofaPigeon · 03/07/2021 10:27

Sorry but are you totally sure it’s not cat shit and cats fighting? You see the foxes?

2021hwg · 03/07/2021 10:27

Yea I have seen them many times.

@myfuckingfreezer I think I’m lucky! I just get my original big bushy male now, he’s stopped bringing over his harem of vixen.

DancesWithTortoises · 03/07/2021 10:31

Cat proof fences also keep foxes out.

Ok. Will try that as well

Gosh we were really excited to find we had a resident fox (we set up a night cam). We’ve had no problems whatsoever.

Well you are lucky. Honestly the mess and the smell is terrible

I have a dog and cats so cleaning up after the foxes doesn't bother me in the slightest. I feed them every night too. What do you mean by can't 'prove' your neighbour is feeding them? What would you do if you could?

catfunk · 03/07/2021 10:47

Agree op fox shit stinks and it's very distinctive.
They're weirdly noisy near me at the moment I think it might be the young ones playing?
Have you tried squirting them with a super soaker when they're in the garden. Usually puts them off.
