Is anyone planning to travel to a green country this summer?

We cancelled our summer holiday as it was to an amber country, but have started to wonder about Ibiza/Mallorca/Menorca now that they’re on the green list. Our biggest worry is the test you have to have 2 days before you return home, because if this is positive, you then have to isolate in a hotel room for 10 days. Whilst DP and I could cope with this, my DC would go crazy.
Does anyone else plan to go to a green country and take this risk? And if so, how are you persuading yourselves it’ll be OK? I really want to go, but I’m worried that the anxiety about a positive test pre-return home might ruin the trip!

What colour is Wales?

Mumblechum0 · 03/07/2021 02:11

We can’t be bothered to,go,abroad, this year. We normally have a 3 week long haul plus 3 or 4 weekends in Europe each year, but decided it’s just not worth the hassle, and are having a lovely time in Devon and a few other places with none of the travel related stresses.

Frownette · 03/07/2021 02:37

Actually that really confused me as my first thought was that England's pretty green.

No I'm not going anywhere, not worth the effort.

Gothichouse40 · 03/07/2021 02:53

No. Things are just too unsettled. I'm not that desperate to go abroad, but really feel for those with family and friends overseas.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 03/07/2021 06:05

Cases in the Balearics are rising and there's talk of them going amber.

Don't go abroad unless you are willing to take the risk of a country becoming amber while you are there. That exact thing happened to Portugal. Just because a country is green now doesn't mean it will stay green. I'm not bothering as I can't take the risk of quarantine.

Pootle40 · 03/07/2021 06:27

Yes going to Majorca in 2 days time 😀

Mintjulia · 03/07/2021 07:10

No. I decided I'd spend the whole time checking lists to see what was changing and if I needed to drop everything to rush home. Where is the fun in that.

yesterdaygirl · 03/07/2021 07:13

Yes going to Ibiza in a weeks time.

RampantIvy · 03/07/2021 07:21

No. There is just too much uncertainty. As Waxonwaxoff0 has pointed out, the status of the country you are visiting can change very quickly. It just isn't worth the hassle.

We are going away somewhere in England this week. The forecast is awful so we have packed accordingly. I'm just looking forward to being somewhere other than my four walls for a change, and visiting family that I haven't seen for over 18 months.

We weren’t going to, but we have decided to go to Iceland, it will coincide with the last two days of my inlaws holiday so it will be nice for my husband to spend some time with them.

They’re not on the green watch list so hopefully we’ll be okay and not need to quarantine when we get home.

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 03/07/2021 07:25

We’re going to Mallorca in two weeks time. Booked it the minute it went green. Watching carefully obviously but if it turns amber while we’re there what can you do? 🤷‍♀️

Bagamoyo1 · 03/07/2021 07:40

Turning amber isn’t the end of the world for us, because we can cope with isolating at home. The scary thought is the test we’d have to have 2 days before the flight home, and the risk of that being positive, necessitating a 10 day hotel room isolation.

No it's too much uncertainty for me. I just can't be bothered with it, and then the hassle of having to get refunds etc. And I definitely wouldn't risk hotel quarantine.

TheVanguardSix · 03/07/2021 08:33

It was such a hassle with PCR testing when I went to and from the States in April, I can't be asked to do that for a family of 5 (the expense!). It is prohibitively expensive.
I just think travel is too much hassle this year.

@Stonelovelace

Double vaccinated and under 12s don’t need pcr test for Spain. So will go there. It’ll be school holidays. So if have to isolated on return could do test and release day 5! Unless I have this wrong?
Yes you can do test and release on day 5, which is what we would do. But that isn’t a worry. The concern is testing positive on the pre-flight test to come home, and getting put in a hotel abroad for 2 weeks. Not sure the kids could stand it. I’ve got one child who wants to risk it, and one who doesn’t!

@Bagamoyo1 that's why we decided to do a villa in Majorca to almost remove chance to catching it while there

Bagamoyo1 · 10/07/2021 13:21

We decided to cancel in the end. Whilst I didn’t mind the pre testing, the cost, or even the risk of isolation on return - none of us could face the risk of testing positive 2 days before returning home, and having to isolate abroad for at least 10 days.

But I’m curious to know if it’s happened to anyone, and what the outcome was. Because no one seems to know.
