Is 3 too young for Polly Pockets?

Boring question, but I want to get a friend's lg Polly Pockets for her 3rd birthday. I think she'd love them, but is 3 really too young? DS (also 3) does occasionally still put things in his mouth, are they a choking hazard?

Yes, the pieces are tiny.

Thank you! I've not seen one in real life since I was a kid, I've heard they're bigger now but obviously not that much bigger.

Depends entirely on the child. My DD has been playing with PollyPockets since 20months and loves them (thanks to my parents who have a very fuzzy concept of age-appropriate toys). However she's never been a "swallower" and also stopped mouthing objects around 18months. I was very skeptical at first and closely watched her but realised that she knew the pieces were for playing. She's 2.5 now and I'm comfortable leaving her fully unsupervised with all types of Polly Pockets. She likes making up stories with the dollhouses and they really keep her entertained much longer than simpler toys.

Yes I got my DD some that she had begged for- it just got lost. Barbie was a hit though

Agree, it depends on the child.

I wouldn't buy one for someone else's child without checking with the parents though.

DD had a huge collection of the originals that she played with from about three. She especially loved the magnetic ones.
Our collection was so huge it filled the loft. Wasn’t all bad though, I sold them for several thousand a few years back. Original polly is now very collectible indeed.

The new ones are much bigger so she’ll probably be fine but as has been said, check with the parents.

I’m not sure about choking but the little rubber clothes are very fiddly and might be frustrating for a younger child.

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 02/07/2021 23:46

Completely depends on the child., first dd put everything in her mouth at 3 so wouldn’t have been ready for the Polly pocket world! second dd now 3, has lots of Polly pockets since she was 2 ( had them from older dd) and gets great value from them
DD1 is now 8 and I caught her with a toy in her mouth today so you can never be too careful Confused

Is she a first or second (or later) child? First child I wouldn’t have given something like that at 3. My second was playing with her sister’s sylvanian families from about 18m which slightly horrified me but she was always very careful.

Have a look at Polly go tiny, the dolls and sets are bigger versions of the mini ones and better for younger kids - just got this for my two year old and she loves it.

I was looking after a 3yo yesterday and she loved playing with DD's Polly Pocket sets. It wouldn't even have occurred to me to put them away Blush
