What's the easiest/quickest way to get desmopressin (for bedwetting)

Dc4 is 8. Wees through pull up, sheet, duvet and cover, pillow and pillowcase about 75% of the time. Rest of the time pull up is sodden but no leaks. I don't mind the bedwetting but washing all his bedding all the time is a nightmare and we are spending a fortune on new pillows and duvets as they are not made to be washed that frequently.

Dc1 was just the same. After a lot of faffing and being bounced from one professional to another the gp prescribed desmopressin which was amazing and he suddenly went from soaking through all his bedding to being dry and not even needing pull ups.

Dc4 still sees his neonatal paediatrician once a year due to having some issues around being born 5 weeks early. I find it hard to get minor health issues sorted for him because the paediatrician says to talk to the gp but the gp won't do much without checking with the paediatrician first. And they write to each other rather than email which takes forever. I asked about desmopressin when we saw the paediatrician last year but she said he was too young and he had to be 8.

Is there a way of getting desmopressin without going round in circles? Can I self refer to the school nurse?

While you wait could you get duvet and pillow protectors?

School nurse can refer to the enuresis clinic, for assessment and prescribing. Get on asap as school yr end coming.

Does your child have diabetes inspidus/ have they been tested for it? It seems strange to just give it out for bedwetting esp a child so young. it is a drug that affects the brain and i would think they're very wary of giving it to a child whose brain is still developing so much.

If you think this is the issue i'd talk to your GP.

A quick google says it cannot be prescribed under the age of 5 and generally not recommended under 7

Thankyou everyone. I didn't realise you could get duvet/pillow protectors. I think if I only had to change the covers and the sheet it would be a lot more manageable. Feel so sorry for ds though. He has reflux as well as the bedwetting so he always seems to be leaking from somewhere.
