A death must be registered within 5 days

DH died yesterday and I need to register his death.

This has to be done with the local registrar within 5 days and the current system here is that you book a telephone appointment on line. There doesn't appear to be a way to call them yourself.

The first available appointment is 6 July. I'm assuming that won't be a problem?

I’m so sorry for your loss. I am sure it will be ok. Take care.

Helenluvsrob · 01/07/2021 17:17

So sorry xx
I’d assume 5 working days anyway so 6th is fine.

Sorry for your loss Flowers

You should be fine. My dad passed away on 23rd May and we weren't able to register him until about 10 days later.

They are aware that it's taking longer and everything is being done over the phone, it shouldn't stop you making funeral arrangements etc in the meantime.

I would assume 5 working days too. I am sure it will be fine. It is hardly your fault they have no appointments.

So sorry this has happened. No it won’t be a problem. You’ve booked. They are very aware of the limitations as a result.

Another example of everyone being super efficient working from home?!

I'm so sorry for your loss.
I'm sure if they see that you've booked the appointment then it will be fine.

I had to do it twice throughout the past year and actually, it's much easier to do it by phone.

Do sorry for your loss. 💐

My elderly mum died 7 years ago, in a big DGH. There was no way I could get an appoint to register her death in the on-site office before 12 days. Which is what I did.

No issue. The woman who did the registration said they absolutely weren't chasing anyone.

Don't stress. You have enough to deal with.

Sorry for your loss Flowers

Back in 2007 with my mums death, we didn't get picking up the death certificate for several days after it was ready due to distance and a post mortem, she died on a Tuesday we recorded it the following Monday but the burial had already taken place on Friday. it was no problem at all. Hospital and undertakers thought that we knew when and where to register it... We didn't.

Sorry for your loss, the death should be registered within 5 days but this can be extended to 9 days if a medical certificate is given by the doctor certifying the death. You can also use the tell us once system at the same time so you can tell the DWP, HMRC, Council Tax etc at the same time. Get a few copies of the death certificate for things like the bank, insurance companies, pension providers etc. We registered my dad's death on the Monday & my mum got her new state pension letter by the Friday.

cabbageking · 03/07/2021 02:39

Last death I registered took 11 days to do over the phone. There were no issues.
