I used to get infections in my right nostril, which my GP swabbed and said was a staph infection. I used to be given Bactroban. I haven't had an infection there for 18 years or so.
I was diagnosed afterwards with nasal polyps and have taken a steroid nasal spray for about 17 years.
I noticed that my nostril was bleeding (same one as before) and had an ulcer, a couple of months ago. I told the nurse and she said to contact the GP, but before I could I had a bad asthma attack and was given oral steroids and antibiotics.
I've not used the nasal spray in that nostril since, as the steroids shrunk them. But they've started to regrow, so I've started using them in good nostril only.
I noticed the nostril was sore again. The skin on the septum looks red, blistered and has white ulcers, it has a golden crust, indicative of staph.
I contacted the GP and they said someone would contact me in three weeks.
Today the turbinate (I think - inside the nostril on the outer part, the fleshy bump), is swollen and has a hole at the top and bottom where blood is coming out.
The dent immediately beneath the bone looks swollen on the outside and the bone just above hurts when touched, as does the cheekbone where it meets the nasal bone.
I contacted the GP again and am waiting to see what they suggest, but is it OK to put TCP in there on a Q-tip as it's really painful and sore?
