Pubs in sheds

Ok I just don't really get the trend for it. Quite a few people I know built them over lockdown, nice project to keep themselves busy, I get that.

Several posted videos and photos of themselves watching the football in them last night, all I could think was surely your living room is a much more comfortable place to do that.

Am I missing something.

If dh liked football, I'd be all for him going out and watching it in a shed.

My friends have one and its very cosy and warm with sofas and fairy lights etc. They live in a very small house and their 2 young teenagers watch TV in their sitting room.

Going into their pub shed is about ESCAPISM, like going to the actual pub when you don't have a lot of money, or can't leave your kids or get a baby sitter. The shed pub breaks up the tedious reality of never getting a break from work/family life. You enter it and suddenly you can forget the stresses of real life on a limited budget basis.

I love going there.

It’s a bit of fun, people needed a project over lockdown and to feel like they had somewhere different to go that wasn’t their living room when nothing else was open, now they have them, why not use it?

Don’t see the issue or why it’s hard to understand really.

I think if it's actually in a shed that's fine. If it's built as an outdoor thing and becomes the local bar / party venue then that's going to piss off the neighbours. There was a thread about one recently and it did sound like hell for the OP.

Personally I'm with you I like to watch TV indoors.

I agree its about the different environment, especially if you don't have a lot of space in the house. Not everyone sees a 'comfortable living room' as the optimal space for relaxation. I'd much rather sit in the garden and do so at every opportunity.

Also allows you to feel like you're going out without having to worry about babysitters or taxis.

I would sell my nan for a pub shed! ‘the Gardener’s Arms’

A few years ago we had a small house with just one reception room. It was Barbie central, plus other related toys.

The shed bar though... it was one place there were no toys (except the box of garden toys in the corner, easily removed). No TV though. It was a World Cup free zone too.

I was looking at the pub shed sold by Dunster House. It would be indoors so as not to disturb the neighbours (although me drinking gin while on my phone shouldn't disrupt them anyway!) and it would also be outside of the house where we've all been trapped for so long. Two small kids but no babysitters needed. I understand the attraction.

There's a group on Facebook dedicated to them Garden Sheds, Pubs and Nightclubs - I've got no intention of having one ever but find it fascinating the lengths and expense that people go to to make them 'authentic'.

We put one in our backgarden about 3/4 years ago

Its a great entertaining space (bar and stools, sofa and chairs, electric woodburner and a 70’s pub style…or so i like to think) and our now adult children 22, 19 and 18 will happily go up there and just talk and play pub games

One of the best things we’ve ever done

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 30/06/2021 13:43

We built the bar…just moved so will replace the pub shed next month and redecorate/fill it with the stuff currently stored in my dining room

idontlikealdi · 30/06/2021 13:46

Great idea IMO. Those that don't want to partake stay inside and those that do get to go out. I totally get the attraction. I lived in teh ME, everyone had 'tiki bars' outdoors. Admittedly slightly warmer than here.

Redcherries · 30/06/2021 13:51

I love ours, its like going out but far cheaper! Its also a lovely place to read in the day and the teenagers use it for having their friends round and don't disturb us.
