Taking down fake ceiling and plastering, but removing spot lights... Can anyone help?

We have a fake strange woody kitchen ceiling, we want that removed and have it normally plastered however, the fake ceiling has spot lights in it which I want removed so do I also need an electrician to do something with the spot lights?

I want ideally lights on a cord but if the ceiling is too know then a light bar.. But not spot lights

Would this be a big job for an electrician? Would plastering person take my ceiling down then I have to get leccy in??

Another way to phrase might be, can I get my ceiling done even with lights needing attention

Just get a quote from an electrician and a plasterer.

It depends if you want to have as many hanging lights as spot lights. Or wether some will need to be isolated and got rid off etc etc

Good luck with your renovations!

Tx, who would take down what's there's, do I need to get the leccy first and he /she will take down the fake ceiling or the plaster person.

You’ll want the sparky in twice. First time to plan where the new lights will sit, remove the old ones and then run the new wiring to where it’ll need to go.

Then again, to wire in the fixtures, once the plasterer has finished. The plasterer can pull the new wiring through the plasterboard.

That’s the way I’d suggest anyway. Much easier for the electrician and much less likely that the new plaster will be damaged.

@PaterPower

Thank that's the advice I needed and do you think the sparky will take down the fake ceiling?

My whole kitchen project is delayed due to lack of trade people but I've found a plaster person's so I'm wondering what I can do whilst waiting for for a fitter! Which will make the whole thing quicker when I can get someone.

Plasterer should be able to take down the old ceiling, often including popping out the old lights and temporary fixing up. Would be ideal to get electrician there on same day to take down the old spots and run cable for new.

Ok thanks, I hope I've found some one now!
