Irregular periods, high LH possible PCOS? TTC

When I first started my periods they were very heavy but regular every 28 days for 4 years and then randomly stopped. I was in college at this point so wasn’t worried but now I’m older and TTC it’s been an ongoing battle. Blood tests have come back ‘normal’ and I also had a long heavy bleed for 6 months with chronic pain and after an ultrasound was told I’m fine. I’ve been tracking ovulation the past month but with no cycle and constant ‘high Lh’ levels it’s leading to PCOS I think? Any advice will be really helpful on what to do next

What and when were the blood tests? Usually you’d have a test between (I think) days 2-5 of your cycle and possibly day 21 to check hormones throughout your cycle. If you don’t have a cycle that’s rather tricky!

If you aren’t having periods at all I’d suggest asking your GP for a prescription for Provera (progesterone) to try to kick start your periods again as a start.

Hormonal blood tests. Testosterone, progesterone, LH, FSH from what I can remember which was in March this year. I didn’t have a cycle so I don’t know why they didn’t re test at a later date too? My GP keeps insisting I take the pill for 6 months to try and reset my cycle but I’m really trying to avoid birth control because that’s the opposite of what I want and it doesn’t agree with me at all but thank you I will suggest that when I call up

Sounds like your GP has similar thoughts - try to start your periods using hormones. But specifically ask for Provera. You might be told you have to see a consultant etc to get it prescribed, which is a nuisance but gets you in to the system as such. If you have PCOS you might not ovulate even if you do have a bleed in which case you might be prescribed Clomid. Again, your GP might not be able to prescribe it so you might need this through a fertility clinic. Good luck!

Hey I used to have regular ish heavy painful periods till last year when they stopped and only started again after trying inositol among other methods (metformin used for pcos ) but still like 3 months gaps .Im with a fertility doc now and have had my tubes tested and uterus checked for polyps blockages etc , Got diagnosed with pcos last year also kept getting positive LH tests. Having periods doesn’t mean you ovulating . I was given norethisterone, to restart my period so I could get more checks done. So you might be given this if they need to do to more tests but still don’t have your periods back. Defo ask for more checks especially if u feel something is wrong and you might have pcos or endometriosis .Honestly I just changed doctors after trying for more than a year and then having a doctor that doesn’t want to listen or try to help you it’s just not on. If you’ve had any infections that could have had a bad effect also mention that to your doctor as might be important. I feel like the fertility docs are a lot better at dealing with this as they are specialist. Good luck to you ttc is defo not an easy journey xx
