Single mum, home owner but can I survive with low income?

My husband often cries 'divorce', especially when I stand up to him if he's being particularly unreasonable and I'm wondering whether one day I could actually afford to call his bluff and leave this rollercoaster.

I'm sure we'd be fine not living together.
I must admit, I often stay becausei can't stand the thought of the children living between 2 homes.

I'm fortunate enough to own my own home but earn very little and wondering if I could actually afford it...

Has anyone ever left before, had a home of their own but earned between 8 and 10k per year?

TIA

Would you be entitled to benefits to top up your salary?

You need to work out your outgoings. That's a low income and there are high monthly costs such as council tax. Depends where you live, what the cost of living is. Factor in holidays, emergencies (boiler replacement, dental work, car repairs, washing machine breaking, all that sort of thing). You may be entitled to benefits if you have low savings.

You can get benefits to top up your income depending on the age of your children. I'm a single parent and I own my home, I earn the minimum wage and get working tax credits. My mortgage payments are £300pm.
