Gift ideas please!

We are going to stay with our friends for a week over summer and want to take something for them to thank them for having us. Obviously we will treat them to a take away while there and also take a share in buying food and cooking for them, but would also like to take something.

They have 4 kids, we are taking a small gift for each of them. What route do you think we should go down for a gift for them? Food related? Booze? Something a bit communal like a board game? Something practical? Something individual like a book each?

I would probably bring some nice food and drink for them and a game for the kids to share

oh, not a hamper! How about one of the fab food deliveries from Aktar at Home, Dishpatch, Rick Stein, afternoon tea from Bettys of Harrogate etc - either for you all to enjoy whilst you are there - lovely meal with minimal prep/clear-up; or to be delivered afterwards?
Otherwise, booze, nice candles, maybe something for outdoors (outdoor games, string of outdoor fairy lights)? I'd love a book too

If I were the host, I’d be overrun with surplus food at the end of the week - I always over-cater. So maybe not food. And if you took booze, they may feel obliged to open it during your stay and share it with you.
When I’m guest, I usually take a fancy bouquet or a potted plant for the hostess. A couple of times recently I’ve taken bath bombs/bath soak ( e.g. bath tea bags from Wild Olive www.wildolivestore.com/product-page/tea-party) with a jokey aside saying that they’ll need to distress after we’ve left!
How old are the children?

These are great ideas. They live in the absolute middle of nowhere and can never get anything delivered but will look into it x

A plant is a lovely idea! They have lots of land. Kids are 11, 9, 3 and 1 - we already have gifts for each of those.
