What shoes does your toddler wear for a school princess dress up?

Just that really. My dd (3) is having a princess dress up thing at her preschool next week. I myself haven't been into dressing up as a kid and my dd hasn't really been watching any Disney movies etc. But I don't want her to be left out so I am planning on getting her a princess outfit. What shoes do your children wear when dressing up as a princess? Do they wear matching shoes? I can only see matching shoes on Disney website but they have very bad reviews about the heel breaking. Also as dd is only 3 I don't really like her wearing shoes with a heel. The children usually wear trainers to preschool on normal days.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Tia

@UhtredRagnarson

Urgh!! Gender stereotyping children aged 3at nursery. I wouldn’t conform to this Op.
God no!!! Let your daughter be left out! If you dress her up as a princess she will be subservient to men her entire life!!! Put your foot down now!!

My first child didn't watch any Disney movies and was completely confused when a real life Princess Elsa turned up at nursery one Christmas for a treat. No clue who she was supposed to be. My youngest could name every Disney princess, Paw Patrol character, superhero and member of the Simpsons by the time she was three Grin

@emmathedilemma

Send her as a pirate! pair of leggings, a striped tshirt and make a hat. Enough of this "girls are princesses, boys are superheros rubbish!"
Or she could ask her child what she wants??? Radical thought I know....

DD was a superhero in this situation. But I did give her a choice.

I wouldn't bother with introducing her to Disney films OP. Most of them are rubbish, especially the older ones. And too complicated for a 3 year old to follow. My daughter is 4.5 and won't sit through a Disney film, but happily watches films of equal length which are simpler to follow.

At 3 my eldest chose to be a pirate out of the same sort of theme, my middle daughter chose to be the dress version of Captain America. At that age, all of mine had watched disney but a wide variety not just princess films- if you decide to introduce disney then the newer princesses are good role models- Merida from Brave, Moana, Elsa in Frozen, Rapunzel from Tangled are all strong women. There is also Wreck it Ralph which has a good female main character in it.

My dd has seen pictures etc of Anna and Elsa everywhere but doesn't know who they are. Her grandparents recently bought her a set of Disney princess puzzles and I explained to her who they were (I didn't know all of them myself, I only recognised cinderella and had to look up the others online Blush).

@WaltzingTilda

Thank you for replying, much appreciated. Boys are dress as pirates or superheroes
Yuck
PumpkinKlNG · 28/06/2021 18:46

No I would not put my child in heels ever. They just wore flat “ballet” style shoes that goes nicely with the dress

WaltzingTilda · 28/06/2021 18:48

At 3 can they actually sit through the full movie ?and do they understand what is going on?

It's easy to brighten up shoes at any age with a bit of card covered in kitchen silver foil, with some elastic slotted through and sewn or tied into a loop to go over their ordinary shoes. Or some beads or jewels likewise on elastic.
Imoits good for children to see their parents improvise rather than buy costumes... They see that they can be creative and innovative.
Good luck!

It depends on the child. We took DD to the cinema to watch Toy Story 4 and I think that was her first time at watching an entire Disney film but she’d watched the vast majority of them either in 2 or 3 goes or in the background.

Our nursery has princess dresses for all the children 😁 I'm not a huge fan of the idea of princesses, but I do enjoy turning up to find them all bimbling around in their colourful dresses.

Re: Disney, I doubt a three year old would sit through a whole film but judging by friends' children you just have it on in the background all the time, so they pick it up bit by bit.

My dd had a pirate witch dress when she was in primary school. It did for just about every occasion going,

Summertime21 · 28/06/2021 19:10

Dd didn't watch the film's at that age but we had the Disney books so she knew a lot of the characters princesses and others

WaltzingTilda · 29/06/2021 10:47

Thank you for replying. I think I am going to try and not introduce dd to Disney movies for as long as I can get away with it 🤔

The more recent ones are less 'helpless princess rescued by man'. Tangled, Moana, Zootropolis, Mulan etc. are all good.
