Hay Fever.... So fed up....

I think yesterday and today is the worst I have ever been.. The pollen count here has been very high. 😔
Last night I went to bed early as I was up for work at 5.45am. I had to go downstairs to get more nasal spray.
I'm in fexofenadine and mometasone nasal spray as well.
One of my customers had to wait while I decided if I was going to sneeze or not earlier.. Thankfully he was very kind and understood. So utterly fed up with it.

Mine has been the worst this year. Never had it this bad before. No idea why. The other day no matter what I took I could not see out of my eyes for hours

1000glitterydicks · 27/06/2021 19:14

Have you tried an acupressure band?
My other half was ridiculously sceptical but has found it brilliant.
They're £12 on Amazon.

Elderflower14 · 27/06/2021 19:16

It's not my eyes so much. Just either a streaming or bunged up nose.
A few years ago my eyes kept streaming.. I had a trail of children following me round the playground asking me why I was crying..."Im NOT crying!!!"

Is anyone using the facial wipes?

OP posts:
Bridgenorth · 27/06/2021 19:47

I use the facial wipes and all the meds you mention- but have now bought a cheap air purifier from Amazon which seems to be helping- has made this weekend bearable instead of a complete write off! Worth a try?

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 27/06/2021 19:49

It’s the absolute pits isn’t it?! Mines more my eyes than my nose but it’s so bad this year.

People keep coming up to me all concerned because it looks like I’ve been crying my eyes out.

Have you tried Vaseline round the nose? A friend of mine swears by it as it helps trap the pollen before it gets up there. Mask wearing is a perfect way to cover up the sheen it gives too.

Luckypoppy · 27/06/2021 19:53

Deffo get an air purifier. Saved my sanity last year and this. I even have a usb one on my desk at work now.

Elderflower14 · 27/06/2021 21:08

Eyes are now itching too.. 😔

Hi OP, Im on fexofenadine as well and for the first time I am using Optrex Hayfever relief eye drops.

My son had a steroid jab from his GP as he had his A'levels, there are also other steroid meds you can take if fexofenadine doesnt work for you. Ask (order!) your GP and hang in there.
Hope you feel better soon.

WellJuhnelle · 27/06/2021 21:38

Mine is so bad this year, I’m really struggling. As a child I was quite often sent home from school as my eyes would be so swollen but it has lessened as I have got older. This year it is back to being as bad as it has ever been.

It is normally over by this time of year too - whatever it is I am allergic to must be out by late May as that is normally when it is worst. I don’t think I’ve ever had it this late into the year before. I wonder if it is because of the poor spring we had

Elderflower14 · 27/06/2021 21:46

I'm going to ring the GP in the morning. The underside of my eyes are swollen now.
I keep getting a horrid taste in my mouth which must come from the eyedrops!

I got DP some wipes, he’s only had them a couple of days but he says they’re helping. I got them from Superdrug on recommendation.

JuniperBeer · 27/06/2021 21:48

Don’t get robbed off with otc eye drops.

Ask for olopatadine on prescription. They are a game changer and no longer need to scratch my eyes out in the slightest. I wished I’d asked for better drops years ago!!!

JuniperBeer · 27/06/2021 21:50

Horrid taste will come from the drop, they drain through your eye into the back of your throat. If you gently close your eyes and press both inner corners of your eye (bit like your pinching the high bridge of your nose) it’ll help keep the drops in your eyes for longer.

StrongerThanA90sTrend · 27/06/2021 22:00

Oh it's been awful. Actually want to rip my nose off. Yesterday evening my left was actually red. I've not had that before. I also did about 10 (not even exaggerating) sneezes in row yesterday. I bloody hate summer.

StrongerThanA90sTrend · 27/06/2021 22:00

*my left eye

Perfectlystill · 27/06/2021 22:18

Can children have the jab? My 11 yr old DD is on fexofenadine and it's not working and she's really suffering.

Elderflower14 · 28/06/2021 11:05

The GP can't do anything. I'm already on above the highest dose of fexofenadine. He very helpfully Hmm suggested I don't go outside!!!

OP posts:
korawick12345 · 28/06/2021 11:14

I am on 180mg fexofenadine and take them more than once a day!

Elderflower14 · 28/06/2021 11:18

I've been told I can't take more than one..

OP posts:
Elderflower14 · 28/06/2021 11:23

He also said that they didn't do steroid injections. It was something that was popular twenty five years ago but they stopped because it gave people either osteoarthritis or osteoporosis (I can't remember which he said!)

@Elderflower14

I've been told I can't take more than one..
Have a google - it can be taken at higher doses for severe hayfever but most GPs won’t bother to find that out. A short course of prednisolone also does the trick but you need to be really assertive with your GP to get them to realise the severity.
