Sleep paralysis- help!

Does anybody else suffer with this? I have had it since my teens, I'm now in my 40s. It is making my life miserable Sad I try to avoid naps / "nodding off" as it is more likely to occur then. But does anybody have any methods to avoid it or to wake up from it, please??

Something like this though there are different types out there. Honestly just eliminated the problem for me - had it all my life until then.

Another one who found switching to sleeping on my side helps. Also (& I know this isn’t for everyone!) I find saying the Lord’s Prayer in my head helps. I’m not religious at all but found that this calms me and makes it easier to wake up. Also as I’ve got older I now know what it is and tend not to panic as much - I sort of just tell myself it’s just sleep paralysis and that helps too.

Ufh this all sounds absolutely horrific. I'm so sorry you all have to deal with this. Would make great horror film though

Haha, it really would! In my latest "episode", which prompted me to start this thread, I "woke up" about 3 times, my DH heard me calling him and shook me awake and I had a conversation with him. None of it was real 😱 he didn't even know about it as he was downstairs! Was awful.

Oh wow, that is so wild! I have crazy dreams but I usually know I'm dreaming so I can enjoy them.

Oh cool! Have you taught yourself to control your dreams or is it something that you just knew how to do?

I'm not quite sure to be honest! I have just always been able to do it, or sometimes I am just watching things happen to other people and I'm not there myself or I might be someone else, or something totally surreal like a fantasy film is happening. But I can really enjoy them even if they are slightly creepy or strange.

I used to get this a lot, complete with alien abduction style hallucinations of beings standing over me and levitating me out of my bed.

I read a lot about it to try and reduce the sheer panic. Easier said than done with the hallucinations, but I found that if I could relax and stop fighting it, I'd be able to take a deep breath, and would then sort of automatically turn on to my side (it only happened if I was sleeping on my back) and go back to sleep.
