Tongue tie division experiences?

My 10 month old has a posterior tongue tie which causes her a lot of wind and to refuse feeds. She doesn’t sleep and is constantly wriggling during sleep. Will division help that?

What are your experiences with tongue tie division please?

Need some hope 🥺

My DS had his tongue tie snipped at 4months old. Prior to that he was absolutely miserable - silent reflux, very wriggly, couldn't lie on his back wanted to be held ALL the time.

The procedure was over very quickly but sad to see nonetheless. I can't imagine the pain. But he was fine moments after the actual snip. It took a couple of days to heal and maybe a week to see any change in his feeding. But it did help massively and he was able to feed much better, was far less gassy and was a much happier baby for it. My only regret wasthat it wasn't spotted and sorted sooner.

Watching. My 4 week-old DS is in the same situation and waiting to be assessed. Hope you get some responses OP.

My DD was only weeks old and breastfeeding was agony and feeding out of a bottle it went everywhere!! As she was young she fed straight away afterwards and if it bothered her I wasn't aware of it- still slept etc.

Did it help baby sleep properly? Xx

@leahmaysimmonds He did start to skeep better but I honestly don't know if it was just development as he was just out of the "fourth trimester" or to do with the tongue tie division. Perhaps it was both.

When I say he slept better, I think he started to just wake 2-3 times at night just for a sleepy feed. Prior to that, he would wake almost every hour and be awake crying for ages! But again, the sleep improvement could be to do with age.

Please do it. Best thing I ever did, for both ds's.

We had DD's surgically snipped under full anaesthetic when she was. 9 months. I could bf without much issues so she was pushed down the urgency list and the surgeon recommended getting it snipped at 1 year. But we discovered issues with weaning, she would refused solids (spoons anyway) and was still on mainly milk.

We managed to get it done privately, the paediatrician we saw was also concerned about potiential speech issues.

1 months later, she dropped 2 bottles, ate with gusto and we were all fine.

Looking back, we should have pushed for it a lot earlier.

My son's was done at 8 weeks and although it wasn't an instant silver bullet, as it were, I noticed an improvement with feeding (which had been excruciating for 8 weeks!!) within a couple of days. I'm very glad we did it.

My tongue tie was diagnosed & snipped when I was 11 after years of speech problems, & then I had to have lessons to learn how to talk properly. The sooner you can get it done the better.

Ds was 14 months when his was done so past the small baby stage. He did have bad reflux in the early months and bottle feeding was a pain as he drooled a lot. His was done under anaesthetic. He was fine afterwards, eating a short while later. I'm glad we got it done as his speech would no doubt have been affected.

It was hugely beneficial for my DS. He was like a different child afterwards.
