Opticians appointment but buy elsewhere

I have an appointment as Boots this week for an eye test. For a few years, I've taken my prescription to an online site for my frames and lenses which works out a lot cheaper than Boots. However, each previous time, I have gone through the charade of trying glasses on there before saying I'll have to have a think then come back (then go and buy online).
Basically, I'm lacking in assertiveness and wasting everyone's time after the eye test going through the pretence of trying glasses on in store! So, has anyone got any easy assertive ways they just pay for the eye test and ask for prescription?

If anyone has any stories of when they've gone through similar ridiculous charades, I'd love to hear them!

Just say you don’t have much time, so will come back another day to look at frames.

I always say I haven’t got time to choose frames today, take my prescription and order online.
Never an issue.

What @BlueSurfer said, and just ask for a paper copy of your prescription for your own records.

Just say that you are only want the prescription. Young adult DD did it this week so I coached her to be upfront about it, after years of dancing around it myself. Nobody’s head fell off.

I use Specsavers and they don't presume I am going to buy new frames. When I check in, they ask if I want to look at frames and I say no thanks and then we just do the eye test.

If you don't want to give a direct No, you could say you don't have time to choose frames that day.

Or you could tell the truth; I don't think you're going to offend the Boots employees.

Just say you're going to buy your glasses elsewhere. I'm an optometrist and it happens all the time

mistermagpie · 27/06/2021 15:31

I just tell them the truth that I'll get my glasses elsewhere. Honestly, they don't care.

Tbortb · 27/06/2021 15:35

Fantastic, I'll just ask for prescription!

At our Boots store now you need to have a set appointment time to try on glasses, as someone follows you round disinfecting frames both before and aftsmer you try them.

It seemed like I would be able to try some on after I received my prescription, but they were very clear that I would have to book a separate appointment if I wanted to come back and try any.

Given that the appointment is already longer than usual due to their restrictions, why not just say that you do not have the time and cannot make an appointment without your diary?

Alternatively just be honest and say that you will be buying them online. They will have heard it before Smile

This is helpful as I didn't take Covid changes into consideration. Thank you all.
