Trying to clear some debts as fast as we can so applying for jobs as long side my full time.
Always said I've never do a job like that but I'm not to bothered anymore if it means being debt free sooner.

Anyone ever worked in a role like this before? And what is it like.

Yes, I worked as a Room Attendant for a very well known hotel in Manchester when I was a student. I was actually studying Hotel and Catering Management at the time, so as well as earning money I used it as experience.

When I graduated I worked as A Floor Supervisor in London in 2 hotels.

It's hard work. Generally you will be cleaning between 16 and 20 rooms a day. You will probably get 15-20 minutes for a stay over and 30-45 minutes for a checkout. Some guests are respectful and will ensure the room is tidy before they leave. Others are awful and will leave the room in a state and it will take longer to clean. I always remember one room where the guests had tried cooking in the waste-bin and burned a whole in the carpet! Another well known comedian used to leave his dirty pants around the floor for us to pick up🤮

Depending on the hotel, will depend on how precise you have to be. I worked in one hotel in London where everything had to placed i. The room to absolute precision and couldn't be a mm out of place! I left there after 8 months!!

Overall I enjoyed it and there was always a sense of teamwork. If we couldn't get into the rooms at the start of the shift or managed to finish early, we'd go and help someone who was behind.

I imagine most hotels are crying out for staff now as the sector is desperately short of candidates.

It's hard work and you're often time pressured with so many minutes per room, no matter what state they've been left in, but you can make up time on the better rooms to use on the messy ones! It's hard physical work, you wouldn't believe how heavy a bag of sheets can be, but once you've got the routine worked out, it can be quite fun.
The advantage is that it's less customer facing than other roles in a hotel, but be prepared to see some things you never thought you'd ever see, or imagine people do. I have honestly seen more in my days in hospitality than care!
I mean this in the nicest possible way, but I wouldn't say this

To your colleagues, without exception, housekeeping have always been the department everyone else has most respect for and deferred to. Even our head chef was wary of our head housekeeper and she'd have bar staff shifting furniture for her when they were quiet, they're the backbone of the hotel.
Good luck, it can be a lot of fun and you're usually done by 2/3pm on a good day.
