Recommendations in Kent for elderly’ish parents

Parents (Early 70s) have decided to relocate to Kent to be nearer their grandchildren. We live in SE London and they keep asking where to move to. We mainly know coastal towns where we go for days out and holidays, and although they like coastal they think inland as it would be quieter. They are looking to be near an area with facilities like shops, pubs etc they can walk/drive to, fairly quiet but not too rural, they ideally would like a newish house but don’t want to be on a huge new build estate. I’ve wondered about near Canterbury. Any other suggestion???

Wye is lovely and has everything they’d need, plus a train station. It has a real community and gorgeous walks straight from the door.

I was going to say Wye too! My parents lived there until such time as they needed care homes, and it had everything they needed, especially as they didn't drive. Quiet, but enough going on in the village. Good transport links.

Wingham, Bridge, Chartham, Blean, Fordwich all worth looking into!

I'd have a look at the villages surrounding Canterbury too. Wye, Chilham, Chartham, Blean, Littlebourne, Wingham, Bridge. It depends how busy/quiet they want it to be.

Can they spend a week in Canterbury and have a little drive around to see if they would prefer to live on the city (it is very lovely here) or if they'd prefer village life. Like the rest of the country house prices have gone a bit crazy in this area - so have a look online to see what's availible and within budget.

Wye. Quite nice as Kent goes.

Thanks everyone, will look into them particularly Wye. Any thoughts on Faversham???

Cranbrook or Tenterden may be worth looking into - both have good facilities and some shops, restaurants etc. Nice feel to both of them. Neither are on a rail line to London though.

I used to live in Faversham, then moved to Canterbury. I prefer Canterbury 100%.

Wye, Tenterden, Cranbrook all fit the bill. Hythe and Sandgate in case they do want coast.

Deal or Broadstairs to be near the sea.

Canterbury in normal times is very busy and has a lot of traffic, definitely not what I would consider quiet. Two big universities and many tourists in one very small city. I love Canterbury, but not necessarily somewhere I'd pick for a quieter, rural life.
Wye is close to Canterbury, and tucked away from the busyness. I'd second Cranbrook and Tenterden. Tenterden is the bigger of the two, but still very lovely. Better selection of shops etc. Cranbrook is much quieter and more what I'd consider 'rural'.
Have they considered East Sussex? Battle might meet their requirements and has a train station.
