Hey my 4 year old daughter keeps holding in her poo she currently hasnt been for 6 days and still often goes 4 to 5 days without going. She keeps having little bits in her knickers but squeezes it back in when it starts coming out. Any suggestions on what to do? Thank you

Go to the doctors

You need to see the GP

It's a very common childhood problem. The treatment is to get on top of the constipation, usually with the aid of large doses of aperients and that to establish a good routine with the aid of regular smaller doses of aperients, fluids, diet and good habits This can last months or sometimes years but will get sorted eventually. It's not anyone's fault. Arrange to speak to your Dr.

Super common, we have been in the same place. Someone recommended the book ‘Stool Withholding - what to do when your child won’t poo’. Which is brilliant. You need to go to your GP and get movicol.

Raisins, dried apricots, kiwi fruit

Grape juice (much nicer than prune juice but does the same job I find!)

Porridge oats

Appropriate over-the-counter stool softeners, ask the pharmacist

We also have one like that - GP for laxatives something like laxido/movicol. (Flavourless powder easiest to take in Apple juice) We’ve recently done a disimpaction regime. Let’s just say you don’t want to be too far from the house! But you’ll get thru it. Don’t stop the laxatives once that’s done, you need to reduce or the same problem will recur.
