What type of bumble bee is this?

He's landed in my washing basket and hasn't moved for half hour. I've given him some super-sugar solution and he's had a little bit has turned away.

Any advice for this furry little polenator?!

What colour is he, can you get a close up.

DaphneDeloresMoorhead · 26/06/2021 13:51

Can you pop him on some flowers ?

BlackAlys · 26/06/2021 13:52

I've tried to nudge him/her back to the syrup but she waggled her leg at me and buzzed a bit.

www.bumblebeeconservation.org/identify-a-bumblebee/

This is a handy website. I have nest in my garden [preens]

braceletsandbangles · 26/06/2021 14:14

That doesn't look like a bee to me OP.

BlackAlys · 26/06/2021 14:45

He has the same furry legs and mannerisms - can't identify him at all though. I have digitalis in my garden but don't know how to get him in without hurting him. The other flowers won't support him.

He's still sat in my laundry basket, not feeding. Sad

@BlackAlys you can use Google Lens to identify almost anything, but you do need a good picture. I tried it with yours and it suggested this species, but a better picture might give a different answer: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombus_wurflenii

Could be this?

When I had a lethargic bee if wasn't very interested in the sugar solution I laid on but went crazy for some honey. It revived rapidly after that.

Try some honey, OP. Sugar solution actually isn’t good for them.

I’d also move the basket-with-bee outside near some flowers so he can scoot off easily.

KilljoysDutch · 26/06/2021 15:33

Don't give it honey! That's a really bad idea it can cause diseases to spread.

BlackAlys · 26/06/2021 15:49

He's still there!
What do I do? I have honey here but it's the refined stuff from supermarkets.

Check on a bee conservation site before giving honey, there's something about the honey from you not being the sme as the honey this bee will be associated with.

BlankTimes · 26/06/2021 15:58

Realised I may as well find better info.

Can I feed a stranded bumblebee some honey?

Do not give bumblebees honey as this can contain pathogens (which is why honeybee keepers never feed shop-bought honey to their bees)

BlankTimes · 26/06/2021 16:00

and
Remember to never feed a bumblebee honey or brown sugar. It must always be white sugar mixed with water 50/50

BlackAlys · 26/06/2021 16:26

Thanks @BlankTimes.

I've done this - not looking good for this little chap Sad

What about a bit of fruit? Like grated apple or grated plum? That would allow the juices of both to gather if it wanted to drink it. And probably better for it than a bit of Tate & Lyle.

BlackAlys · 26/06/2021 22:22

Lost this little one Sad
I've seen a lot of dead little bumbles lately - I think one of my Bastard neighbours is using pesticides.
