Any thoughts?

It’s a decent amount. I would like to make it count

The only one I really know is the Alzheimer’s Society, but I think they might have changed the name now, to reflect all types of dementia, not just Alzheimer’s.
For several years their Talking Point forum for carers for people with dementia was an absolute lifeline for me - as it has been for many others.

When my DM finally died, though, we made a donation to the extremely good (not for profit) dementia-only care home, where she’d spent her last years, to help with providing facilities/activities/outings, etc.

I’d love to know the home

I’m hoping to make it a regular donation

I donate to www.alzheimersresearchuk.org/
Apoarently Terry Pratchet made a very large donation after his diagnosis.

ARUK.

Brilliant scientists putting all their effort into finding treatments and preventatives.

My DM has dementia and we fundraiser for the Alzheimer's Society as they've supported her so much (she was diagnosed at 50).

They both find research but all of ARUK's money goes to research. Alzheimer's Soc also do help and support to those with dementia and those caring for dementia. So really it depends what does it for you. I have raised funds for both.

Can you split the amount up between 2 or 3 charities?

DaisyDreaming · 26/06/2021 15:33

What kind of thing do you want done with your money? Do you want research, support or general? I would personal look at small local charities who provide support with things like respite. I donated to a charity which takes old people out of care homes in specially designed bikes and takes them for a ride along the sea front, you could probably ask for it to be used on people with Alzheimer’s

If you are looking for something to make an immediate impact I would go for a small local charity. The bikes mentioned above are amazing but not cheap. Depending on what you mean by a large sum purchase of something physical like that might be good. Or Offering to cover the cost of coach hire for a local dementia cafe or day centre outing. Otherwise the alzheimer's society is good as the fund everything from research to campaigning to local support groups.
