What to do in Scarborough

So I'm taking my daughter camping by myself in Scarborough this week. When I booked the holiday the weather forecast said sunny around 21 degrees. I've checked again today, and now it's not looking as nice Sad

I had planned for at least one day on the beach and another morning at the park, but I'm not sure I want to if it's cold and cloudy! I have a ticket booked for the Sealife Aquarium on Tuesday.

What other things would you recommend? Happy to drive up to an hour or so, although I'm coming from Hull so would prefer places in the other direction!

How old is she?

JaninaDuszejko · 25/06/2021 20:20

The swimming pool is good. What about a trip to the theatre, don't know if the Stephen Joseph is open yet though? You could do all the rides at the beach or go to the Castle (EH).

Crabbing off the harbour wall, ice cream sundae at harbour bar, Luna park dodgems, Scarborough Castle, Peasholm park naval warfare and Also squirrel feeding, go ape thing near north bay railway, north bay railway itself, Alpamare pool, shuttle worth gardens to see the fairies, robin hoods bay to find the pirate treasure, burniston rocks secret beach for fossils, boat ride to look for dolphins. I love Scarborough as you can see

Cheermonger · 25/06/2021 20:21

Stephen Joseph is open for socially distanced stuff and cinema

GravityFalls · 25/06/2021 20:21

There’s plenty of amusement arcades and ice cream parlours on the seafront, and a little train further up the beach. Peasholm Park is lovely for a walk round even when it’s grey (lots of squirrels!). There’s a cinema too.

NotMeNoNo · 25/06/2021 20:22

Open top bus, beach, penny arcades, walk along cliffs and back, castle, train ride, Peasholm park/ picnic, fish and chips. Yorkshire air museum a bit further away. I think there's a pirate boat trip?
The beach is right at the seafront so if it rains everybody dashes into the arcades and tea shops and reappears when the sun comes out.

When we go to Scarborough the kids always insist on a day to flamingo land, about an hour's drive away.

SpinningWheelOfFortune · 25/06/2021 20:27

The swimming pool is fun, has slides etc. although not cheap from what I remember.

North Bay is lovely, there's a small railway plus a small boating lake nearby, near Peasholm Park, although I see what you mean if the weather's not so good.

Eden camp isn't too far and is an interesting day out.

Scarby9 · 25/06/2021 20:27

What about the North Yorkshire Water Park - you could paddleboard or go on an electric boat (don't know how old your daughter is? Or just eat in the bistro, walk round the lake and watch the action. www.northyorkshirewaterpark.co.uk/
You are also easily within an hour of Flamingoland themepark and zoo.
Alpamare is the (very expensive) posh swimming pool, with waterslides etc, just above Peasholme.

Cheermonger · 25/06/2021 20:28

Flamingo land is awful at the min, overpriced, crowded, humungous queues - look at the reviews before you decide.

If she’s old enough, wykeham lakes is on the outskirts and it’s a fab water sports center,

There's also a paint a pot place in scarbrough if you're specifically looking for indoor, can't remember the name but I'm sure google will find it. There's John bull rock Bridlington way, which is a rock factory where you can see how they make it etc. Always York too, with the Yorvick centre or York chocolate story that are indoors.

Go have a laugh at what a dump Britannia have let the Grand become.

Try and eat a medium fish and chips from the place on the esplanade, and chortle at the grown men crying once they see the enormity of the 'large'.

Try to navigate an entire lap Peasholm park while doing the 'dodge the duck shit hopscotch'. Bonus points if you manage to do a lap of the island or bump into one of the cheeky squirrels that will eat out of your hand.

@Funnylittlefloozie Grin

Thanks everyone,.some good suggestions!

Daughter is 4 and hasn't had swimming lessons yet, but that would be a good shout. And the rock factory, would never have thought of that!

Lovely beach at Filey and usually quieter. A few rides on the front there for little ones. Venture inland to Pickering and a ride on the steam train. We go to Whitby for the day, stopping off at Robin Hood's Bay.

DiscustinHunAmFummin · 25/06/2021 21:09

Playdale farm park is good and also piglets adventure park just outside York. We usually stop there on the way home if you dont mind a slight detour although you might need to book.
