Can anyone help me track down this (very old) song?

My mum used to sing this about 50 years ago - I thought it was from a Gilbert and Sullivan opera, but I can't find it anywhere and googling the lyrics hasn't helped. The lyrics are

The spring's the crown of all the year
No other season can compare
The violets bloom again
Refreshed by April rain
Not sure of next two lines...
And now the meadows green
Remind me of spring.
Sing! Of the flowers in spring
Sing! Of the birds on the wing
And - every pretty thing
And every pretty thing
Birds sing so merrily telling us verily
Sunshine returns again, winter is o'er
Now see the honeybee, buzzing so busily
Robbing each bloom
Yes spring is here once more.

Dreadful old doggerel really but I need to know where its from!

Not sure but I found the missing lines!

The author that posted this just says it was a song she sung in school...

Yes - I'm sure that's where my mum sang it too! Are the missing lines something about oxslips and cowslips?

Yes - can you see the attached photo? Missing lines say "the bluebells in the woodlands grow / the cowslips in the grasses show" 🙂

The music was just on Clarkson’s Farm! The sheep episode. I wonder if I could track it down from there?

the bluebells in the woodlands grow
along the meadows there below
among the meadows green

In 1950 I was a member of Littleover, Derby, School Choir (11 years old) and we sang The Springs the crown of all the year. I called it Springs Return? I love the descriptive words, they depict Spring perfectly and can still remember all of the words today. Our music teacher was Allan Street, Leader of Derby Light Orchestra. In the year previous a recording was made of the choir singing this melody, I wonder whether it is in existence anywhere.? The tune is familiar to me, almost like a waltz, but I have been unable to find out what it is called. I would love to find out who created the words and music.

Hi there,
That old song is wine, women & song from Johann Strauss.
I used to sing it as a baby of 2 years old. Heard it from my aunts who used to practice for concerts. It goes way back to the fifties.
Enjoy,
Love Hannah 💕

I sang this song in a schools choir in the mid 60's, it's set to a part of a Strauss composition - Wine women & song.
