Would you open this parcel?

It's got my street address on it but the postcode is slightly different and the name is completely different.

There's a company name on the label but no address and Google doesn't seem to recognise the company.

Do I open it to see if there are contact details inside? Hold onto it to see if anyone contacts me? For how long? Just bin it? Put it back in the post, not known at this address?

Have you googled the postcode and the name?
They could be living nearby waiting for their parcel.

Mintyt · 25/06/2021 08:45

Yes open it and get the company details and contact them

Backhills · 25/06/2021 08:47

Yes, the postcode is the same (long) street but Google doesn't know the name.

Is the house number yours?

What is the company? Maybe one of us can find it for you.

Backhills · 25/06/2021 08:52

Yes, house number is mine. Company name says Dreco Ltd

What happens if you google the postcode ? If after googling it’s not obvious what the correct address is I would return to post with ‘not at .. and whatever your postcode is . I wouldn’t bin it and I would not open .

CardinalLolzy · 25/06/2021 09:04

Are you on any local Facebook or WhatsApp groups? I'd ask if anyone recognises the name. Maybe say the name of the street it came to as well.

Doughdog · 25/06/2021 09:17

A similar thing happened to me, a parcel to my address but a different name. No return address on the outside. I opened it, was an expensive pair of trainers. I checked my bank and my card had been cloned, the trainers were one purchase they made but they had made several totalling £1000. There is not a lot you can do with the package really but definitely check your bank.

namechange30455 · 25/06/2021 09:22

Have you Googled the company to see if you can get in touch with them?

I'd assume they've got the wrong house number and someone who works for the company lives on your street tbh.

Divineswirls · 25/06/2021 09:24

I had this happen and opened it up.

I called the small business who had sent it and we worked out the correct address which I subsequently forwarded the small package on to.

She even offered to send me a free item which I declined as she was a small craft business.

Divineswirls · 25/06/2021 09:26

I also had a card sent to me with a gift for a newborn so I knocked on doors in my street with the same number on it and hit the jackpot with the correct recipient

@Backhills

Yes, house number is mine. Company name says Dreco Ltd
well i have found you a Dreco find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/07369425
ApolloandDaphne · 25/06/2021 09:36

I would open it to see if it had contact details for the company in it and also to make sure it wasn't something I had actually ordered and forgotten about!

user1468105798 · 25/06/2021 09:44

Last week I had a special delivery parcel addressed to my house in a residential street but with a company name as recipient. Told postman I didnt want to accept it and he took it away

HeronLanyon · 25/06/2021 09:46

I would keep it unopened for a week (by when neighbour expecting may have tracked down that it went to your house number). Then I’d open it and see what’s what.

charlotteself · 25/06/2021 10:13

Ask your postie if he recognises the name. A parcel I ordered once got delivered to a someone else in my street and she asked the postie who told her he'd bring it to me

GU24Mum · 25/06/2021 10:44

Look on gov.uk / companies house and you'll find the companies with Dreco in their name. If one of those is your road then you should be able to see the house number.

We had this a while ago. On Valentine's Day parcel with a joke name (something like Miss Sexy Wiggle) arrived.
Dd (15) was adamant that it wasn't her. No return address or company name. Eventually a week later we opened it to find a very expensive brand new sex toy still in protective packaging. DD was clear that no one she knew liked her enough to send her a £100 sex toy and she spent all her pocket money on Depop, so it just sat there in the box in the hall for another week.

A while later DH met the new neighbours (think number 35 when we're 53) who moved in around Valentine's Day. He was convinced the pressie was for them (tbh he's probably right!) but we dissuaded him from his planned course of action - leaving it in the doorstep and running away.
DD, "They've got a ring doorbell. VIDEO. If it's not theirs then you are the pervy middle aged man who left a sex toy on the doorstep of the new lesbian neighbours. If it is theirs then it's obvious the box was opened. DO NOTHING DAD".
It quietly vanished from where it had been languishing in in the utility room around April time. I'm not going to mention it to DD....

I had this, I checked with our street whats app group and found the intended recipient, he lived across the road which was why the postcode was slightly different.
