I need a hand hold through the process, today someone came around and I get the feeling they can do whatever but didn't give much of a handhold, so I'm not good at measuring etc what should I be looking for!
. We need our floor leveling, walls plastered and a fake ceiling removed, electric checked then a new kitchen installed.

I went to a local independent kitchen showroom. They came out, measured up, asked me how I use my kitchen and what's important to me, and designed it. They then organised all the fitters, tilers, electricians etc. They were cheaper than magnet etc. Where are you based?

Lemonmelonsun · 25/06/2021 20:21

Based in South East. You can pm me if you like.
I'm worried because I was reading about fitter for places like magnet do the kixthen part on magnet warranty but then some charge for instance Double the price to plaster the room.

You need someone to design and measure and see what will fit best in the space you have and what you would like for the layout, storage etc. You need them to measure, because if there’s a mistake, it’s their responsibility if they measured, yours if you do.

I wouldn’t expect kitchen fitters to do plumbing, plastering and electrics though.

If he really meant he himself would do everything, then run a mile. If what he actually meant was, he can do some and knows a person wo can do plastering or plumbing or electrics, then you need to clarify with him if that is the case.
Could go with a company who does it all but they charge a fortune. I'm getting quotes of 36k to 41k. They are charging 23k for just the units which I personally think is way too much. They say 29 units cost that much but DIY Kitchens does not!
I'm looking for alternatives, maybe a carpenter who knows the trades.

@pindu

Where are you getting quotes from...

just from inependent Kitchen companies. Claim their units are much better than others, as they all do.
Good ones are made from Egger MFC which retails at £160 per board including edgebanding and cutting. Can make 2 units out of one board so if you count labour and doors, no way in hell I am paying 800 per unit

We are looking for a new kitchen. We did our own rough measurements and made an appointment with Magnet, who had some amazing ideas and drew up plans.
Unfortunately their estimates were a bit on the pricey side, so we have just had Howdens round to the house to measure up and recreate the designs that Magnet made for us. Still waiting on a quote, but what they said was that they will give us the names of some fitters that they have links with, snd if we are generally happy with cost, to contact fitter who will come round, do his own measure to and quote us for fitting. This most likely will include him/her subcontracting the plumbing/electric work out to others.

It's complicated, and ideally I'd prefer a one-stop shop...

Actor by night

I've been put off howdens a little because they won't tell you the prices it's a secret between them and the trader, so it's up to the trader for the mark up..
B and q it's app clearly labelled, each price for each thing!

Actor perhaps look at DIY and see if you can find it your own fitter?

I am also going to take the DIY Kitchens route. Just need to find a decent fitter. Will start a new thread cause want to get opinions on how much for a ripout and refit if all appliances and sinks are in the same place.

Lemonmelonsun · 18/07/2021 22:04

Pindu I'm the same pretty much everything in the same place

The issue with DIY is getting someone to measure for you
