Anyone else have neighbours they want to get away from?

I'm not looking for advice or judgemental opinions, just any similar stories and support I guess.
I'm getting so fed and stressed with our neighbours. We're in a terraced house so not much space between the houses. They chain smoke in the garden throughout the day, occasional weed too. There's probably about 7ft between our back door and where they're smoking other side of the fence. Whilst they're outside smoking, their little ones are left inside on their own. We can't have windows open and I don't like putting washing out unless they don't appear to be in. Whilst smoking they also have loud, swearing conversations on video calls.
Their dog constantly barks as soon as we go in the garden and doesn't stop until we're back inside. He also does this for other neighbours. The dog looks fit and well which is surprising as they never take him for walks. He's put in the garden for the day everyday.
Plus, we've had to hear some worrying parenting involving smacking and shouting which we've reported but it's left us feeling quite disturbed now and on edge.

There was some hope as we are in a chain ready to move and thought we were finally going this week but there's been a chain break and now it looks unlikely anytime soon.
I know you could have annoying neighbours anywhere and there's no guarantee for the next house. Plus, I know that they are entitled to smoke, be loud, have a barking dog. I know there are far worse neighbour situations that people have than what I've described. It's just beomming quite stressful. I have to be at home more at the moment so maybe that makes it harder. Especially not being able to enjoy the garden.
Anyone else have neighbours that they wanted to get away from?

In a word, yes.

It’s very common unfortunately. At least you’ve made the decision to go and have got stuck into the process. It may not work out this time, but it will ultimately. My neighbour issues are up and down, and when it’s ok I think I’d be mad to incur all the hassle of leaving a house I love. But then there is another episode and I feel stressed out and unhappy again. I feel like at least making the decision would be a move forward.

I've heard of awful neighbors on here and I escaped really awful ones last time but I dont think its that common. I was in such a state by the time we left.

Your chain is broken but it will soon be on again so you can count down the days. Until then I would try and break things up a bit and go out each day or even overnight somewhere.

We did and they were the reason we moved. Constant loud music, weed smoking, shouting & swearing.
Lockdown was the final straw... I'd always gone out to escape their nose. But during lockdown there was nowhere to escape to. House went on the market as soon as lockdown 1 lifted.

It's happening tonight. It's a Thursday night, obviously the best night of the week to have friends staying over....we are fed up with it. They will talk and laugh until 3/4am.

Can't stand them.

Just goes to show how important good neighbours are and the ones that aren't can really cause stress and misery.
I think the lockdowns must have made things worse for people. I'm effectively shielding due to the end of pregnancy hence why I'm home so much and I could do without the extra stress of neighbours tbh.
Just hoping it won't be too long until we move, although I also feel bad for our buyers when they discover for themselves what the neighbours are like.

Upstairs neighbour in our first flat was a druggie, punched me in the face one time when we asked if he’d mind turning down the music. He proceeded to play music so loud it was just unbearable from 7pm to 7am every night. He threatened us when he found out my Dh was joining the police. He regularly threw his girlfriend across the room.

The poor neighbours who’d lived there forever and raised their children there moved. We did too, having been totally honest with the agent/prospective buyers. I nearly had a breakdown that year, particularly when one buyer pulled out. It’s made us extra sensitive to noise, so we’re extremely fortunate with our current neighbours (bar the new endlessly barking dog) and plan to move in a few years to an isolated property.

Yep - moving next month.

I'm in a similar situation and I really sympathise. For various reasons I moved into a housing association flat just before lockdown started. My flat is beautiful, I've spent time and money decorating it and I really love it. It's in a gorgeous little town, two minutes from lovely shops, river, canal, countryside walks, and the rent is literally half what private rent would be. Small block with elderly tenants apart from one nightmare, druggy bastard who lives under me. The first twelve months were relatively peaceful but now lockdown is all but over it's unbearable for hours every day, gangs of useless, jobless, druggy blokes smoking weed in the stairwell and under the windows at all hours of the day, I literally can't have my windows open for the stench and clouds of smoke. The only saving grace is that they have very small children so they are quiet at night. The housing association don't care and won't even return my calls, he is dealing drugs but the police don't care. It's fucking ridiculous. I'm going to have to give up my first secure and affordable home in years because nobody will deal with this clown.
Ugh, sorry for the rant, I'm glad you're getting out and I hope your future is much more peaceful!
