Sorry OP but you will have rats plural not rat singular. Our local council does free pest control. Not sure if it extends to outbuildings but they put poison down so depends how you would feel about that.

rbe78 · 24/06/2021 10:46

Let the dog at it? Ours has currently declared war on the rats under our patio - not that she's got one yet, but she's certainly scaring them off!

PraiseBee · 24/06/2021 10:52

Call pest control via the council for discount rate. They will put boxes down that only the rats can get into. But they will advise you. There will be several rats. Do you have bird feeders or anything that is attracting them? I had to stop feeding the birds. I was feeding more rats than birds

thanks, will ring council. I have bird feeders hung on the shed....they will be gone n the next ten minutes!!

He will have friends! Remove all food sources and get some bait boxes.

YanTanTethera123 · 24/06/2021 12:10

You definitely won’t have a solitary rat unfortunately. Good luck with getting rid of them!

happyjack12 · 24/06/2021 12:26

urgh!
have contacted council, removed feeders, will get a bait box tomorrow
anything other tips?
thanks, my skin is crawling....

It's just a rat - I wouldn't want them in the house but it's not the end of the world outside. Squirrels are just rats with fluffy tails, and yet people actively try to attract them to their gardens!

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/06/2021 16:28

I can’t get worked up about rats either.

thinkfast · 24/06/2021 16:44

Remove the shed and the rats will look for a new home

Cakeonthefloor · 25/06/2021 18:36

We had rats at the back of the garden. They eat snails. When we removed the shed there were hundreds of snail shells. They caused no bother but moved away. I would like them back. I hate snails.

Nicolastuffedone · 25/06/2021 19:03

I could get very worked up about rats! I’m with you op…..

HappyRaven · 25/06/2021 23:31

Just be careful that your dog doesn't get hold of the dead or dying rats.
