Soft play.

Mydogisagentleman · 24/06/2021 08:08

So many shops have gone.
Off the top of my head, Hotter, Dorothy Perkins, Next, Debenhams Burton, independent furniture shop.
Our local town centre is just charity shops and vape shops now

WhiteVixen · 24/06/2021 08:12

We also had a baby/toddler friendly cafe with small soft play area and an upstairs room they ran baby groups that announced it was closing earlier this month.

We had a New Look and Dorothy Perkins on our small high street that are now gone.

FunnyInjury · 24/06/2021 08:17

An outfit concession store, a peacocks and a works shop.
All closed.
M&S food last year but I believe that was a planned m&s food reshuffle.
All empty units now except m&s which has become a range store. Great, already have b&m and home bargains on the same place 🤷‍♀️
Also local sandwich shop with best bacon butties ever has also sadly had to close as not enough lunch business anymore Sad

StCharlotte · 24/06/2021 08:18

How long have you got?

It was Dorothy Perkins and there's a zero waste shop which is on its way out which is a shame because we all said we wanted it. Sadly I think she should have opened it in the next town which is very "naice", lots of lovely independent shops etc. Where we live is not the right demographic (it's all barbers, nail bars and charity shops).

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 24/06/2021 08:31

Iceland in the shopping centre and a busy one it was too. Next one is 3 miles in a busy tourist town that is a pain to shop in.

Seafog · 24/06/2021 08:35

Le Chateau
I feel badly, as I made out like a bandit during their last few days open.
Everything marked down 70-90%, plus if you bought ten items or more , you got 60% off what ever your final tally was.
10 pairs of dress pants, three dresses, a dress shirt and a pair of causal pants for $63.00

kezziethegingercat · 24/06/2021 08:37

Not sure in what order but in the last few months lots has closed on our high street: Next, Waterstones, Dorothy Perkins, Fatface, a bakery.

Warmhandscoldheart · 24/06/2021 08:49

A beauty salon, 2 charity shop and an independent electrical shop in my local High Street.
The nearest town looks like a ghost town.

GreenClock · 24/06/2021 08:59

A small Indian restaurant that didn’t embrace deliveries or sign up to Just Eat during the pandemic closed down just after Christmas. They offered a takeaway service which didn’t work brilliantly because there is limited parking nearby so the only customers were those within walking distance. If you don’t move with the times you’re in trouble. That said, I feel really sorry for the soft play etc cohort that simply cannot ride out a pandemic by changing the way it operates.

milinhas · 24/06/2021 09:01

Unusually, a Wetherspoons.

CMOTDibbler · 24/06/2021 09:01

Our little town is surviving pretty well tbh, and we've actually had a number of new restaurants and shops open. Over the pandemic the only thing that seems to have permanently closed is the shoe shop which only did shoes for the more mature lady and was one of those places I could never see how it kept going as you rarely saw anyone in it. I think that was due to retirement though.
A restaurant did close, but the building has been swiftly turned round into a new one which looks much nicer than what it was before

OoglyMoogly · 24/06/2021 09:14

The pub. Sad Now we have to drive to the nearest pub if we fancy a drink rather than walking.

1moreglassplease · 24/06/2021 09:17

Debenhams and Clarks are the latest I've noticed.

Blueberriesonmyshreddies · 24/06/2021 09:19

In the high street, Nationwide Building Society.
In our town centre Debenhams. Our town centre is a mess in general though, lots of businesses moved out so it's like a ghost town.

MargaretThursday · 24/06/2021 09:22

Thorntons I think.

But they gave us lots of free chocolate and boxes of toffee for the foodbank, which was great. I had a car full!

Bimblybomeyelash · 24/06/2021 09:39

Debenhams is the most obvious . But there are lots of empty shops dotted around, especially in the older smaller premises, that used to be occupied by independent retailers. The larger modern sites get quickly refilled by chain stores. I don’t know what is going to replace Debenhams though, it’s massive!

Dollywilde · 24/06/2021 09:44

Dorothy Perkins, which isn’t a great loss imo but it had a large corner plot in our small shopping precinct so it’s really making it look tatty. We’re also about to lose our Barclays and our Santander - again doesn’t affect me hugely but they have really key spots on the high st and it’s going to look rather sad when they go. I think we’re suffering as a small town 15 mins drive from a large town - we’re always going to be considered duplication and in a fight between us and the big town they’ll always keep that spot open.

On the plus side, there seem to be loads of cafes and restaurants opening up - we’re a commuter town to London and I think wfh has really encouraged people to go out locally rather than in London after work. Fingers crossed they continue to thrive!

whatswithtodaytoday · 24/06/2021 09:46

A rubbish pub, and Monsoon. I will miss Monsoon a lot. I hope the pub is bought by someone else and done up, as it's in a lovely building but had terrible service and no atmosphere.

0ntheg0again · 24/06/2021 09:51

Lots of Co-op branches have suddenly closed in our area, to be fair, there were lots of them in a fairly small area.

Redcrayons · 24/06/2021 09:56

Not sure when it closed as I haven’t been into town for awhile but I recently noticed that WH Smith has closed.

Argos is still open but I’ve heard they are merging it with another store not far away.

meanwhile, plans for our third Aldi are in place.

BiBabbles · 24/06/2021 10:02

A Showcase Cinema, which was a shame as it was more accessible than the next closest one which is really tall rather than spread out.

We've also had the Pizza Huts, a Co-Op, Debenhams, and a few other places close recently, not sure which was actually last.

cossette · 24/06/2021 11:29

purpleme12 · 24/06/2021 11:37

FourTeaFallOut · 24/06/2021 11:39

A local Frankie and Bennies and with it one of the few nearby places that did unfussy gluten free food for kids.
