No Oyster on London buses for children?

Dd couldn't find her Oyster card today so I suggested she use her debit card instead. However I have now seen her debit card on her bedside table!

Will they let her on the bus without a card as bus travel is free anyway? Anyone know?

@bendmeoverbackwards

Thanks all. I’ve decided not to tell her her card is at home, I’ll wait and see what happens. Either she’ll be allowed on the bus (she’s in school uniform obviously) or I’ll get a panicked phone call. It’s too far to walk all the way but I’ll probably drive to meet her half way.

Why on earth would you not tell her?

Didn't she have to use it to get to school?

@roobicoobi I'm trying to encourage a bit of responsibility and independence in her. I wanted to see how she would cope if something unexpected happened.

@SoupDragon I usually take her in the mornings.

After all that she found her Oyster card in her bag!

I am glad you believe in responsibility OP. I wish all parents felt the same as you. Perhaps a lesson in being careful with things and putting them in safe/consistent places.

Glad it turned out to be an 'all's well that ends well' situation, OP.
