Is anyone else getting worried about school bubbles closing just before the summer holidays?

I found out this morning that four ( four!) year groups are currently isolating at our village school. Not the school either of my kids attend, but they go to clubs and socialise with these kids and our schools are only just down the road. I’m tempted to avoid Guides, swimming, golf etc for a couple of weeks.

While a closed bubble ( or worse, a positive test) in the next couple of weeks would be hugely inconvenient for work and life, the idea of having to sit at home for 10 days when we could be on holiday ( 16th July, only camping in Norfolk, but I can’t wait), even if they test negative, would be a bit heartbreaking. We’ve luckily dodged any self isolation so far and I feel like the fates are holding off for the big one....

Is this exercising anyone else at the moment, or am I a bit paranoid?

DDs bubble popped just in time for the half term holiday so that was awful timing. A lot of families had taken the opportunity to book a few days away which would have been lovely with the glorious weather we had.

I'm very aware the same could happen again and I'm kicking myself for booking stuff for the 1st week of the holidays.

Me.

Rapidly spreading round her too, several year groups isolating in my sons high school (he's so far avoided being a close contact as was in the schools isolation unit 3.5 days last week but back in class this week). We gave a child a lift home on Tuesday that became symptomatic on Friday and I was in the office Wednesday with someone who tested positive over the weekend, thankfully I didn't sit near that person so we have so far narrowly avoided isolated but I suspect its only a matter of time now.

Very.

Me and dp are both teachers - ds is in year 4. Our shitty covid restricted wedding is booked for July 16th

Safe to say we're shitting ourselves

CompanyCrowdFight · 22/06/2021 11:22

I am a bit. We are going away the day after term ends. Just keeping my fingers crossed!

Same! I am getting a bit nervous, I've just had to shell out for new kit for the DC and we can cancel up to 7 days before we leave. That last week has me worried!

Ugzbugz · 22/06/2021 11:35

When will this isolating ever stop? We can't live like this forever its ridiculous.

PaniniHead · 22/06/2021 11:42

My DD’s school is sticking with the bubbles until at least October half term. Only one class per year group anyways so it’s easier to manage

rookiemere · 22/06/2021 11:45

There is talk of reducing the self isolation period to 5 days with a test to release at the end. I wish they'd hurry up and do that. DCs education comes first - yeah right.

Labradabradorable · 22/06/2021 11:53

Workyticket I really hope that your wedding can go ahead. It must feel a worrying time for you all.

Yep, there's cases at local schools. I've been caught up with it - a friend's kids were in a popped bubble, and the school asked them to be tested before returning. My friend figured she may as well test too... Positive. So I'm isolating as a close contact. Her kids are negative. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I'm keeping my kids off school as (1) I think it's silly they don't have to isolate if I do and (2) our school is all one bubble and I am not being the one who pops it.

ChocolateRiver · 22/06/2021 11:56

I am. We’re supposed to go on holiday as soon as school finishes. Dh and I are both teachers and we’ve got 2 children in primary school. I’m keeping everything crossed!

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 22/06/2021 12:06

It happened to us at half term
Had to cancel our plans as DS ASC bubble burst in the week before
He had to self isolate. Technically the rest of us didn't but we could hardly go away without him so we had to cancel.
Gutted.
I regretted sending him to ASC as I didn't really absolutely need to now that DH is wfh. I actually thought it would be better for him to play with other DC outside after school rather than sit in the X box yet again but wound up making him miss half term and do even more X box

We had not had a bubble burst at school the whole way along up to now so I guess I felt the danger had passed a bit.

I also had a notification about a possible contact at my gym but the 10 days had already passed before they notified me. Really useful. But Again it made me think can I afford to use my limited freedoms if it's going to put us at risk of self isolation? It's like Catch 22.

It's really stupid because the adults are double vaccinated and the whole family has already had Covid. I am way more scared of having to bloody isolate again than if the remote possibility that we actually get Covid.

I am definitely going to reduce chances of exposure before anything important in future.

idontlikealdi · 22/06/2021 12:12

I'm not worried, yet, as we are not in an area with rising infection but I did pull them out before christmas, even though we couldn't mix I couldn't face being copped up and isolating, turned out we did the right thing as the bubble popped the day before they broke up.

I will be monitoring the next few weeks as we have a holiday booked (UK) the day after they break up and I am not prepared to miss it, and they don't deserve to miss it.

Main spanner in the works is that DH is a secondary teacher so he can't pull himself out of school!

TheCanyon · 22/06/2021 12:18

Our schools finish tomorrow, we've kept them off this last week. We're going away on Friday and didn't want to chance it.

princesslarmadrama · 22/06/2021 12:20

My youngest's bubble burst this morning. Two year groups off now. I expect more closure of classes before summer break.

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 22/06/2021 12:34

My child’s primary school bubble as with several local primary and secondary schools have already been asked to self isolate with remote home online schooling. My child tests negative daily using home anti gen self screening lateral flow tests but on school instructions tested positive with the official full strength diagnostic Covid PCR laboratory test! Too many within local community are blasé, Covid fatigued, don’t mask and don’t social distance but hopefully single or double jabbed and importantly don’t test at all. Even with the widely pushed quick and easy but low medical threshold quality free home lateral flow tests that tests for any anti bodies for asymptomatic colds, other general respiratory viruses etc including possibly Covid but requires a confirmation follow up more accurate PCR test. No one seemingly cares whether it is Indian, Cornwall, NW England, Leicester South Asian or any other potential Euro 2020/1 variants of possible vaccines escape. It’s 2019 already in central London jabbed or not! Can’t see it being wholly long term sustainable even if vaccination helps!

Labradabradorable · 22/06/2021 12:54

Two more year groups are out at a village primary a mile down the road. I've decided I'm keeping my two off Guides, swimming etc. for the last couple of weeks to give us a fighting chance of going on holiday.

Worried about it here. I could have kept school-age DC at home for a week before we’re due to travel but I can’t keep youngest one off nursery because I need to work, so just crossing fingers and hoping like mad.

onemouseplace · 22/06/2021 14:53

Yes, worried about it here as well. We're in a surge testing area and I've already had one of the DC off since half term. Mainly hoping that DD1 gets to do her Y6 residential and Y6 leavers events, which are the last two weeks of term.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 22/06/2021 14:59

I can't even keep DS off because I can't WFH and he's too young to be left on his own. Cubs is still Zoom only at the moment so that's not a worry. He would hate it if I said no horse riding but as that's outdoors anyway it should be fine! School is the major worry.
