If you formula fed your baby....

Baby is just about to turn 1 this week. She was formula bottle fed after I couldn't breast feed. We have successfully weaned to cows milk already but she is still having 3 bottles a day before 2 naps and bed.

Just a question for parents of FF babies... once they've switched to cows milk what happens when you travel? Ie we hope to go away in august on a short haul - what would we do about milk? Cows milk needs to be kept cold but ready made formula cartons are easy to cart around and I understand airports will let you bring those onto a plane.

Or what if we do a long journey to visit grandparents..?

Keen to keep her in cows milk and to reduce the dependency on milk.

Any advice from those who FF would be appreciated. Thanks.

By 14 months mine had milk in a cup at breakfast and snack time so wasn't an issue to have water and food instead.

I used ff for up to 2 years when it was convenient - either powder or the pre-made cartons.

My 18m still has 3 bottles a day! He has issues with eating so it's a way of having something he doesn't eat much food. Anything we offer he spits out. Even treats!
He's under dietician and paediatrics.
One says give the extra one says don't.!

Hes cmpa so. We get soya. If out and about I put in a bottle in a bottle bag. Or buy when I'm at places and fill the bottle.
Much easier than formula,

In my experience changing to a cup rather than a bottle reduces how much milk they drink, and is something to start really at 1.

why would you want to reduce amount of milk? they should be drinking a pint of milk until they are 2.

and you can introduce cups much earlier than 1 year

Think it’s a bit less than a pint actually, more like 350ml and that includes milk in food. A child have 3+ bottles is likely having quite a bit more than they need.

The health visitor and NHS website said 5-600ml a day. Her bottles are about 350 so we do need to reduce.

I'm concerned about how to stop as the milk leads into her naps and helps her become drowsy.

5-600ml is for formula fed babies under 12 months. By 10 months the amount will reduce and from 12 months it's 350ml including dairy in food.

@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba
I just meant when op swaps to a cup she might find the amount of milk dc drinks might naturally reduce. Which might mean this subject is less of an issue when she gets to the planned trip in August. That's all.
