As it says, our DD has tested positive for COVID 19 after a visit to A+E.
She is still at university and all I can do is arrange a food delivery.
Apart from tuna ready meals, can anyone think of anything else.
She has a very restricted range of food that she will eat, pretty much fish, chicken and white bread. Unfortunately she can’t visit her kitchen at the moment.

Is she forbidden to use the kitchen, or is this a self/flatmates imposed rule, in which case they are being ridiculous. With proper hygiene it will be fine.

DS is self isolating due to track and trace, and every time this has happened in his flat they set up a rota or just WhatsApp each other to check if the kitchen/bathrooms are empty.

@ShaunaTheSheep.to be honest, I’m not sure. Probably her self imposed rule.
She phoned me several times yesterday which is unheard of. She was crying, partly with pain in her back and shoulders (the prescription she was given by the hospital was issued for the hospital pharmacy. I have told her to phone and explain the situation and see if it can be filled at an ordinary chemist)
And partly from hunger and being cross at the situation.

If she, or you, calls the pharmacy she would usually use and offers delivery they should be able to help out. They will confirm the prescription with the hospital pharmacy. It may be different if she was prescribed controlled drugs but everything else is possible. I recently got caught without my prescription medication in another city and had to pay £4 admin but got an extra week supply. I could have got that waived as well if I went through 111 so maybe they could help too with that.

OP

If your daughter phones her usual G's number there will be contact details for an on call GP - they should be able to issue a prescription direct to a local pharmacy, pharmacies will all deliver but probably not until Monday.

Mydogisagentleman · 20/06/2021 11:37

I’ll let her know about the script options. She has been prescribed cocodamol for her pain.
I spoke to her earlier on, she’s just been for her PCR COVID test and will contact student services tomorrow. Her ‘best’ friend is going to cook her and egg and some toast.
He’s a lovely lad, but very well off and, since he generally buys Waitrose ready meals or uses deliveroo has a limited repertoire.

Super Noodles, or Pot Noodles might work.

Tinned custard.

If she eats tuna, maybe tinned pilchards/sardines/salmon for a change.

Meat paste with bread and butter.

WentworthPrison · 20/06/2021 14:19

Slim fast shakes would give her plenty of vitamins. Could be bulked up with breads, rivitas etc.

Mydogisagentleman · 20/06/2021 14:26

Thanks for the suggestions.
I honestly can’t see her eating meat paste although she loves corned beef which is pretty similar.
I don’t really want to go down the slim fast route, she has a history of eating disorder and at one point just weighed 5 stone 9. She is only 5 foot 1 but she was skeletal and hollow eyed.

I think I’d go for Pot noodles, mug shots, broiches, tinned fruit, crisps, biscuits, chocolate, wraps with tuna mix, orange juice cartons?

ThatsNotMyReindeer · 20/06/2021 15:00

This all seems very extreme. Would a flatmate not be willing to cook her a meal alongside their own?

LIZS · 20/06/2021 15:05

Is she in halls? Dd could use her kitchen while si as long as noone else was in there. Can't she keep her food in a container in fridge?

prettyvisitor · 20/06/2021 15:05

She is fine to use the kitchen as long as they keep it ventilated and she uses at a different time to the others, and washes her hands/wipes down surfaces. She seriously cannot just stay in that tiny room living off snacks for ten days.

cupsofcoffee · 20/06/2021 15:36

Pot Noodles
Bread and butter with various fillings. Most spreads will be fine in a cool area for 10 days.
Tinned fruit (maybe with meringue nests or something)
Tinned tuna/salmon to add to sandwiches etc.
Crisps
Crackers/breadsticks and dips.

Or ask her flatmates to cook for her and leave it outside her door.

cocoloco987 · 20/06/2021 15:41

On top of other suggestions- croissants are good and decent amount of calories. Sliced cheese will be ok out the fridge for a day or 2. She can order takeaways and she's more in her bank that I have, currently isolating with 2 dc. I'm sure she'll be fine

Mydogisagentleman · 21/06/2021 11:43

I sent her a food delivery and transferred some money to her.
Unfortunately most of the other students have gone home, and of the 5 remaining, she has fallen out with 4.
She e is not an easy person!
