Activities for someone recovering from surgery

MIL is shortly having surgery for cancer and will have a long recovery period and with other treatments is unlikely to feel up to going out and about for many weeks. Am trying to think of nice activities she can do at home. She crochet and knits already. She loves gardening.

We don't live nearby yet (hopefully moving in a month or so) so needs to be stuff we can send from afar.

Was thinking maybe an indoor herb garden? Any ideas much appreciated.

Adult colouring book and set of nice colouring pencils

Book of short stories, magazines (magazine subscription?), light reading - I found it difficult to concentrate initially (due to anaesthetic?)

Netflix subscription

Cross-stitch sector tapestry set

The thing I most appreciated when I was recovering from cancer surgery and having chemo were audio books - sometimes I was just to exhausted even to read, but lying down and listening to someone else read me a story was great.
If she likes growing stuff and she feels up to it, maybe some micro herbs/shoots - they grow quickly on tissue paper and you can put them in sandwiches or salads.
Other than that does she have amazon prime/ netflix something like that so she can watch some favourites when she feels up to it.
Someone also sent me a couple of pots with bulbs in them and it was nice to have them in my room and watch them grow and flower.

Reading material and magazines for when you can't be bothered with complicated plots, - maybe some light novels - cosy crime mysteries, or something similar.

Maybe a subscription to a knitting magazine and some wool.

The thing I loved most was skype calls with family and letters - getting a letter each week was something I really looked forward to.

Hope your MIL makes a good recovery, - wishing her well Flowers

Brilliant ideas above.
Is she having surgery only? I ask as I had chemo too and couldn’t read books -brain completely wiped out, so preferred newspapers and magazines.
A gousto/hello fresh etc. delivery might be welcomed.
She’s fortunate to have such a thoughtful daughter-in-law 😊

Is she computer literate? One of these programmes where you can design gardens might be fun. Farmville or similar.

Thanks all, some fab ideas. Will have a good look through tomorrow :)

She is computer literate helpful and is not elderly, only in her 50s. Think most of her knowledge is work based but I don't think she would struggle to pick things up.
