When I'm going through the channels to go up in numbers you have to press the bloody down button and vice versa.

With normal sky you could press the play button to bring up your recordings and play something.

Now the play button just pauses the effing screen.

Nothing makes sense.

I've had Sky Q for 2 years now and the reason I haven't got used to it yet is because NOTHING MAKES SENSE.

They have massively over complicated it all to the point where I've looked and still looking to leave them.

Anyone else hate SkyQ?

I hate it with a firey passion and DH who is techy and designs user interfaces for his job also hates it. We're going to switch to Virgin when we get to the end of their deal.

My two pet hates are that you can't easily delete all epidoes of a series. You used to be able to select delete all or delete viewed but now you have to go in one by one.

You have SO many clicks to get anywhere or do anything. The bloody search bar is a massive scrolling bar that you have to go up and down on which we do regularly as the voice search often doesn't work well.

ARGH.

userchange8945 · 19/06/2021 11:09

@CarolinaWeeper if you go into recordings, manage, you can delete all episodes in a series in one go.

@Ivy48

My biggest hate is that you can’t just carry on a programme where you left off! Regularly fall asleep etc and the programme I’ve recorded will end but you have bloody fast forward the whole thing to find where you were! Can’t just type in 20 minutes on the planner it have automatic play back!
The super fast function takes you through a couple of hours of the programme in a few seconds, and the time is displayed so you can go back twenty minutes literally in a second, faster than the previous version where you had to type in the time. I think the vast majority of bug bears on this thread can be done it’s just that Sky changed the way it’s done so much it’s no longer intuitive. And who wants to spend ages watching the info film every time you can’t work out how to do something. I do agree with the above comment re more clicks. As a product manager for IT systems, when making improvements to functionality, you generally want to reduce keystrokes to users not increase them.
Whinginadeville · 19/06/2021 11:45

When I see a trailer I can't record it by pressing the record button I have to search for it. Bloody hate it.

Whinginadeville · 19/06/2021 11:47

And I'm six months in and still can't get series link when I want it but have 5 ion episodes of programs I didn't like.

Whinginadeville · 19/06/2021 11:47

*billion

Whinginadeville · 19/06/2021 11:48

I do like the Netflix and Amazon Prime on voice command tho

MrsMariaReynolds · 19/06/2021 11:52

Thank you for reminding me to stay strong every time Sky calls to harass us into upgrading to the SkyQ box. No thanks, I like my old one!

Mamette · 19/06/2021 11:53

I got rid of Sky soon(ish) after we “upgraded” to Sky Q. The hassle involved in cancelling! So many phone calls and time on hold. They are complete pricks when you want to cancel.

EversoDelighted · 19/06/2021 12:07

I think it's great, so much better than our old Sky+, masses more functionality. Takes a bit of getting used to, a bit like learning to use a Mac instead of a Windows PC, you just have to experiment with it.

Thymeout · 19/06/2021 12:27

Is there a quick way of activating subtitles? On VM, I only had to press one key, but it's 4 key strokes the way I'm doing it now.

PickleSarnie · 19/06/2021 12:38

The touch sensitive remote is/was shit. Breathing near it set the dawn thing off. Ours died so we replaced it with one where all the buttons have to be physically clicked and it's sooooo much better.

PickleSarnie · 19/06/2021 12:38

^^damn not dawn!

I hate this part too!! It's was one of the first things I missed when we switched!! That and the fact that you can only go forward by 24 hours in the guide, and then have to keep scrolling!
Sn0tnose · 19/06/2021 14:06

We never would have upgraded to Sky Q if we’d known what a complete pile of rubbish it is. I’d echo everything above plus you can’t set reminders on programmes anymore.

They’ve just sent us a voice activated remote and I’ve shoved it in a cupboard.

EversoDelighted · 19/06/2021 17:20

You can go forward in 24 hour increments for a week in the planner, just keep clicking the fast forward button.

If you have half watched a recorded programme you can easily pick up where you were using the Continue button under recordings.

If you fell asleep and want to start again at 20 mins just press play/pause or ff to get the scroll bar up then use R or L on the middle disc to move to your chosen point it only takes a couple of seconds.

AnyaDoesntLikeBunnies · 19/06/2021 17:33

I agree with basically everything and I used to work for Sky. Sky Q is a nightmare, I feel like a dinosaur when I use it because I just can't get to grips with it, I'm normally good with tech too. it's not intuitive at all and there's not enough contrast between the fonts they use and background colours so difficult to read.

NewYearNewTwatName · 19/06/2021 17:38

Oh god I thought I was the only one!

yes bloody hate sky Q. its horrible to navigate takes ages to get anywhere, the search is awful clicking up and down the fucking alphabet and numbers, I keep thinking if I keep my finger pressed down it will be quicker but no takes even longer.

I want the old remote back too, utterly indestructible. the new one the battery cover slips off every time you pick it up.

had it 6 months and the only thing that I found of any use was when I used the box in the front room the thing I had recorded and was watching was all ready to go but that is it for pros.

magicstar1 · 19/06/2021 17:40

I hate it. I’ve figured out most of the tricks, but the worst thing is the other, manually added channels. It used to take seconds to see them, now it’s settings, manual, then PIN number, then pick just one channel. No more flicking between them…you can only pick one then back to the main menu.

LadyCatStark · 19/06/2021 17:51

I hate the wheel thingy on the remotes control that you slide your finger across, up or down. Unless you get it perfectly straight, it goes a totally different way to the one you want.

I also hate this regular conversation with Sky:

Me: I’d like to reduce our package as £72 ( yes we do pay that much!) is too much.
Sky: well why do you want to keep?
Me: none of it but DH just wants sport and Discovery channel and to keep the sky box upstairs but we can live without HD.
Sky: sorry you can’t have multiroom without HD, well you can but the cost of your other packages will go up.
Me: why? Well how much would it be then? I don’t want the box sets.
Sky: it would come to…….. £72 and you get box sets.
Me: what a coincidence! I don’t and box sets can you take them off?
Sky: no they come with X package but we can save you £2 per month on Netflix.
Me: oh ok that would be good actually.
Sky: great now there’ll just be a one off £20 admin fee to to that for you.
Me: oh for gods sake just leave it as it is.
Sky: great! If you think I’ve been helpful today please give me a 5 star rating!

I actually love my voice controlled Sky Q controller. It took me a couple of weeks to get used to the menus but now I find it easy. The voice control is brilliant. My parents have an old Sky HD box and it seems very cumbersome now.
The only thing I don't like is when the Sky Q box lists the channels it puts BBC1 first but not the HD version. 🤔
Watching the Euros on BBC and ITV HD has also made me realise how fabulous it is watching football in Sky UHD 4K.
