I’ve come across this a few times in the last month. It makes me so uncomfortable and it’s so annoying trying to reason with someone on this.
Basically… someone in a privileged position “punching down” on lifestyles. Someone I know is very well off from his tech start-up, and his wife was complaining about people using cars so much and how bad it was and didn’t they care they were giving their kids asthma. How we should all be buying Teslas (they cost a fortune!) and carbon off-setting
I really get the point but we’re not trying to kill kids…(I don’t have a car but still)
Then another guy I know, he was saying about volunteering more and how everyone should be made to do half a day volunteering at the weekend. I said “what about people with kids” and he said they could bring them to educate them. Which I suppose is a good idea? But he also works freelance at a “fun” job because he sits on a trust fund so his week is not exactly tiring.
I’ve said repeatedly people can’t afford this, have second jobs at the weekend etc.
Basically it really annoys me that people with money and time - security - complain so much that others aren’t “making a change”.
Making those changes is such a harder burden to bear for those of us who aren’t minted, and these people seem to have no idea about “normal life”. What’s an easy way of telling them this and them getting it?!? Their response of “well everyone needs to make a change” is so patronising!!! You have the resources and can make a bigger change… stop thinking we all have to make changes at the same rate
Just needed the rant!!
