I’ve FINALLY got an NHS appointment for the ADHD clinic! What happens next?

It’s been three years since I approached my GP to ask for a referral. I’d all but given up on actually being able to see someone/get a diagnosis/get help but today I received a call from a lovely woman who’s booked me for a video appointment in a couple of weeks!!!

For those who have gone through the NHS as an adult could you share what happened to you next please?

I filled in a questionnaire so did a family member.
Then I had a video appointment which was about an hour.
Waiting for medication review now. Good luck.

Oooooh @JSL52, think I’m going to be emailed a questionnaire. Is the medication review for actually being prescribed meds or to look at what you’re on?

...and thanks for the good luck Smile

In case I want to start medication and the options available. I haven't decided what to do yet.
It's a relief to have the diagnosis but also a bit sad , could things have been different?
Made some very silly hasty decisions.

CrikeyMatron · 18/06/2021 14:43

Yeah, my life has been littered with impulsive bad decisions and wasted potential. Some of my behaviour could be seen as self-sabotage iyswim?

I’m happy to be medicated as inertia is a massive issue. Did you get offered meds on your first assessment?

Sorry for the late reply , no I didn't. He recommended Ritalin. Still trying to decide.

I could have written this* ☹️but is it just my personality ???

CrikeyMatron · 20/06/2021 12:02

From research it sounds like our behaviours are common with ADHD. I thought it was just my (defective) personality but realised that it isn’t. There’s an actual medical reason for us being like this!
I’m already on loads of different meds for various things so if i’m offered drugs i’ll bloody bite their hands off on the off chance it improves my life!

Keep me posted. I find it rather depressing that I could have made better decisions maybe ??

CrikeyMatron · 21/06/2021 08:39

I will do @JSL52.

There’s another thread going at the moment about adult diagnosis and the feelings that accompany it.

@JSL52 well my appointment went fantastically!
Got a firm diagnosis of ADHD. Starting on Lisdexamfetamine as soon as I get the prescription sent to me. It was such a relief to feel validated.

I'm really pleased for you. Is that different to Ritalin? I'm still undecided.
