Does anyone use washable/re-usable pantyliners?

Post DC I have a pelvic organ prolapse, issues with my pelvic floor (am seeing a physio) and wear pantyliners daily to catch leaks and discharge. I am really starting to feel guilty about the environmental impact though and would like to look into a reusable option.....can anyone that uses them tell me what they're like? I worry that they would smell and/or feel damp but I'd really like to try if they're a viable option.

I do, and my daughters now use washable sanitary towels.

I bought them for environmental reasons but in many ways I prefer them to the disposable ones - they feel softer and are equally if not more absorbent. I think. They don't feel damp and don't usually smell (if one does, I just change it (I'm retired so don't have to worry about changing it at work). In the long term they must be cheaper too.

There are two disadvantages I think: 1) they are bulkier, so I worry about them being more visible when I am wearing tight fitting clothes like gym leggings and 2) they are held on by one popper and can move around a bit if I am doing strenuous exercise at the gym - usually they end up too far back, which isn't ideal and adds to the worry about visibility.

But for normal wear they are fine.

I use them as a backup for a mooncup and find them great. So not exactly the same reasons as you, but I find them comfy and they stay feeling dry.

I have these ones which are nice and not bulky — I forget I'm wearing them!

I started using them for leaks about 3 months ago and second Fithtime. Very comfy, soft, non smelly if changed as needed, wash well and dry quickly. But yes they do move a bit and might show if tight bottoms on. You could wear them most of the time and revert to pads when essential. Some makes do different lengths. Glad I made the change.

Yes, I have some from Cheeky Wipes.

They definitely don't smell or feel damp, if anything they are less damp-feeling than a normal pad. Easy to wash and dry and lots of different pretty colours.

I mainly use a cup but do use these towards then end of my period so I can tell when it's finishing.

I don't use panty liners but can highly recommend period pants! I've been using them for a few months now (as a backup then alternative to my mooncup, just I'm just so fed up of having to put something up me!!) M&S do really good value ones, which work really well - no leakage at all (no chance of anything moving around or out of place), wash really well and as comfortable as normal pants. My favourites are from Modibodi, but they're expensive. Wuka are good too, but again, pricey. I can't recommend period pants highly enough though!

I use Sainsbury's period pants for this reason. They're great.

Yes, this is a great company which manufactures ethically in the UK: www.tcs-eco.co.uk/collections/cloth-sanitary-pads-incontinence-conpatiable

I use washable sanitary towels - the Eco Femme ones. They're fantastic. No smells at all, unlike the plastic ones, because they're made of cotton. They're very absorbent and I feel drier than with disposables - again, because I don't get that horrible, plastic sweatiness going on.

I just chuck them in the wash with all the other darks. I've been using the same ones for over two years now and they're as good as new. I hope they'll last me until menopause now (I'm nearly 40).

I have washable pads off eBay

I find them comfy. They can get a bit damp at the end of the day but no more so than disposable pads.
I wash them at 60 degrees and add a bit of zoflora to keep them smelling fresh.
I wouldn’t go back to disposable now

Not sure if link works

I couldn't get on with period pants as they're not natural fibres.
I have cheeky wipes ones that are like towelling, and feel like pants. I've had them years. I rinse them in cold water if they are particularly full, otherwise stick them in the washing machine

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 18/06/2021 13:29

Just marking my place as I've been looking into these, thanks for the links.

Namechangeforthis88 · 18/06/2021 13:32

I used to find they moved around a bit, I fixed them in place with a wee safety pin, but the more they are washed, the more flexible they get and the less they move out of place (I find, anyway).

I usually wash them with towels (as in bath towels) so they get a longer, hotter, wash than my cloths (which are usually a 30 degree wash.

busterised · 18/06/2021 13:36

I've found these fab, wouldn't go back to disposable www.babipur.co.uk/imse-organic-period-pads-pantyliner.html

noscoobydoodle · 18/06/2021 13:41

Yes I use washable pads and am also a recent convert to period/pee pants from cheeky wipes. I found disposable ones often gave me thrush- I've never had it since I switched. Just don't forget a little wet bag/pouch (I got one with my set). I just throw them in the washer - have 3dcs and 2 dogs so there's usually a load ready to go!

Ariela · 18/06/2021 13:42

I've Imse Vimse ones in black (as I'm a mostly black knickers sort of person). They do not slip, being cotton backed they absolutely stay put.

wizzywig · 18/06/2021 13:44

Wow, never thought of this before. Thanks

noscoobydoodle · 18/06/2021 13:47

In terms of feel, I've never felt damp, I've never noticed a smell and they are soft. I like that the ones I have are all dark so can't see any blood. I prefer the pants if I'm doing martial arts as the pads can move a bit. I don't really wear tight clothes (except skinny jeans) so not an issue for me but pads are a little more bulky than a disposable panty liner.

CarolinaWeeper · 18/06/2021 16:30

Thank you all so much, I definitely think I'll give them a go. I'm getting so fed up of pantyliners and recently they've started making me feel sore, I think if they get twisted and start rubbing. I'll have a look for a starter pack.
