Stamp duty rush!!! Moving... In a week?!

So we sold our house in February and hoped we'd benefit from the stamp duty exemption. Got into a chain of 6 and things seemed to drag on slowly. We just assumed things were going to take a while (especially as one of the properties is a repossession) and we wouldn't be moving until later on in the summer. However, yesterday, got an email to say that the 25th June is the suggested date for completion. Nothing is packed, haven't hired a van, don't feel ready!
I'm also apprehensive about packing up everything, hiring removals, dh booking time off work, etc on just a suggested date. I know solicitors are working crazy to get things through before the 30th June for the stamp duty exemption. What do people think? Anyone else in the stamp duty rush?
All I keep seeing on local Facebook pages I follow is people asking for boxes and removal vans. It's all a bit crazy.

Depends is you'd rather have the rush now or how you'd feel to spend out on x number of thousands when it could be saved.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 17/06/2021 18:23

Do you need removals? If you do you need to check you can get one before you agree. They might all be booked already.

mag2305 · 17/06/2021 18:27

@Chanel05 yeh, I know. It's obviously a great incentive to do it before the end of June. We'll do our best. Just feels kind of overwhelming right now.

We're moving on the 25th too. Most of my house still isnt packed. Grin

PolkadotSloth · 17/06/2021 18:30

It's worth a bit of rushing to save £15k!

PolkadotSloth · 17/06/2021 18:31

Even if you fork out for expensive movers who pack and unpack for you, you'll make a huge saving.

HeartZone · 17/06/2021 18:37

Depends on the value of the house you and the others in your change n are buying.
Maybe it’s not worth the hassle.

MimiSunshine · 17/06/2021 18:43

Do you NEED to hire a removal firm? Can’t you hire a van and ask a few mates to help you lift the big furniture?
Or even get some short term storage units and start boxing up and shifting stuff into it this weekend by car so on moving day you just have the big stuff to get out

mag2305 · 17/06/2021 18:44

We would only need a self hire van as our house is quite small.

I sold my house in mid March and completion is tomorrow.....most of the house is empty just mattresses to go in the morning....I have been packing before the house even went on the market.

Congratulations! How exciting.

Not entirely sure how this helps the OP though. 😂

@PolkadotSloth yes, not sure if that was particularly helpful but did make me smile.

I do also have the added challenge of having a 2 year old and pregnant due... wait for it... oh yes, the 29th June!! HmmGrin

Aaaargh! My goodness. That is a LOT to manage. I would say throw money at it, get packers in (if you don't have that much it won't be too expensive compared to the stamp duty saving) and let other people do it all. What huge disruption for you at that point in your pregnancy. BUT having the move over with (hopefully!!!) and being in your new house - even if it's still chaotic - when your baby arrives may be worth it? May be even harder to manage with a newborn as well! I hope it all works out for you.

PolkadotSloth · 17/06/2021 22:11

I mean if you were to move after the birth with a newborn as well it would be harder. Sorry, garbled sentence! If it was me I'd try to get it over with before your baby arrives.

mag2305 · 17/06/2021 22:26

@PolkadotSloth I know, crazy timing. Yeh, absolutely, it could be better this side of pregnancy in many ways. I'm just going with the flow as there's not much else I can do really. I'm more concerned about disruption for my 2 year old over anything else. I think his things will be the last to be packed up so he doesn't get too unsettled.
Luckily we just have a two up, two down small cottage atm so we don't have a huge amount.

And thank you Smile

Ahhh I really sympathise as I moved with two very small children. It's insane but was worth it! Really hope it all goes smoothly for you. Smile And I'm sure your 2 year old will adjust in no time. I bought lots of treats for moving day and a "moving in present" for mine and that seemed to help.

My husband works in an industry that deals with people moving house. He has been so busy. Like … seriously busy. People have been moving themselves as they couldn’t get a van. All the same as u to save money.
