lillyorlana · 17/06/2021 00:06

Probably a silly question but where is there to go in the uk in august for a few nights.

Butlins is £900!
Centreparcs more

Not really campers....

Where/what else is there? / other options?

Maybe I'm a cheapskate but this seems a-lot just to stay in the uk or is this the norm?

We are just on average folk salaries, not min wave not at the 40% tax bracket either

Friend of a friend owns Shore Cottage on Iona, it is a lovely place to explore. Absolutely no idea of current cost and probably far too big for what you need.

Am sure there are other , smaller options, but my vote is for the islands in August!

Have you looked at National trust holidays? You don't have to be a member to book and they have a no quibble covid refund policy. I used it at Christmas so I know it works!

You could look at a random area and see what comes up? Avoid coasts and "obvious" places.

Also Airbnb sometimes has good deals, again if you go for a random suburban house / flat rather than a cute country cottage.

@lillyorlana

Love the scotland and premier inn ideas!

So true ive left it too late and maybe i do just need a bit of educating on uk trips and how much they cost.

I love the staycation idea too, so simple but never thought of it

Thank you all for your ideas :)

My Dd is having a new bathroom fitted so they took themselves off to two rooms in a nearby town hotel with spa and pool . £100 for the two rooms for a family of 5 including breakfast Have a look for deals like that We once took my brood to the Hinckley island hotel for a weekend deal Was lovely, had a swimming pool and we just explored the local area. I think it then became a 4 seasons hotel. I just wouldn’t pay the £1000-£2000 Asking price You get a good quality second hand touring caravan for that price

My Dd let hers go for £200.

When I saw your post I do wish I hadn’t let my mums house go so cheaply.
I live near the coast.
Nearest beach a mile and a half away.
I would’ve let it out for £500 a week. Three bedrooms and two bathrooms . So it would sleep 6 quite comfortably and wheelchair accessible as well. That was it unique selling point but was discouraged by family.
Garden at rear and parking for two cars on drive.
If I’d known this was going to hit it would’ve been a nice little earner.
Still , someone got a nice house and I got a static in N Yorks.

I've booked London as ots do much cheaper. Mid August- 4 nights on Southbank in a hotel with a kitchenette. Lots of free stuff to do in London and using our Merlin passes for some of the payable attractions. Booked train this week only £54 return for three of us from Notts. Really looking forward to it!

rookiemere · 17/06/2021 10:14

Oh yes London is a great shout as should be a lot more accommodation than normal and actually huge number of outdoor activities for DCs

Melitza · 17/06/2021 10:21

When our dc were primary age we planned a week that suited us all.
2 nights cheap hotel for American adventure theme park first day. Visit to football club for dh and ds next day while dd and I had a look around shops.
Next hotel near the potteries for me, then a day around Buxton, and 5th day Alton Towers, one night at sil's who lived nearby and a trip home the next day via Cadbury world.
The theme parks were the expensive bit. Everyone got to do something they wanted.
Our kids loved it.

Wow , what a bargain I was thinking of going to the London protest on June 26 as it’s going to be mega with so many angry people But I expected the train fare for me and dh to be £100s I shall look into it Might even stay over
shewalkslikerihanna · 17/06/2021 11:48

Wow you’re right £54 ..for one way
£100 each
Need to convince dh now

Ready4abreak · 17/06/2021 11:51

Premier Inn were doing ridiculously low prices. Have booked a family room in central London for 4 nights in July for £157!

LBOCS2 · 17/06/2021 11:55

Also, the camping and caravanning club has safari tents - which is like 'camping lite' but really cheap for what it is and a bit of a gem. If you Google "readycamp" you should see it.

shewalkslikerihanna · 17/06/2021 13:00

4 nights £157
Temped.
Very

EnglishGirlApproximately · 17/06/2021 13:11

@rookiemere I'm also thinking London is a good choice as there's plenty of outdoor things to see and do in case we do have restrictions. I booked the hotel a couple of months ago but there's still loads of availability as no foreign tourists are here.

emmathedilemma · 17/06/2021 13:22

I booked a caravan on a hoseasons site only last week for the August bank holiday monday week for under £100 a night and it wasn't the cheapest van or the cheapest site. I was surprised there was so much availability at fairly reasonable costs so i assume schools are returning part way through that week? I was about to book a wigwam / glamping shed type thing then realised a caravan with proper facilities was no more expensive.

emmathedilemma · 17/06/2021 13:25

These got recommended on another thread www.wigwamholidays.com/bookonline

MyDcAreMarvel · 17/06/2021 14:13

I meant £900 is very cheap for not* term time.

1988Username · 17/06/2021 14:48

We are mid staycation at the moment the good weather is definitely helping matters but we're having a lovely time.

40somethingJBJ · 17/06/2021 14:56

I’ve just booked a static caravan in north Wales for a week at the end of August/beginning of September through ukcaravans4hire.com. Cost £250 and is on a hoseasons site so should be ok. Accommodation looks pretty nice and we only use it as somewhere to get our heads down anyway as we’ll be out and about most of the time.

VikingsandDragons · 17/06/2021 20:32

Try travelodge, we just booked a week in Derbyshire for 8 nights for under £300 in August. Its not exciting but it is cheap and a new base to see things from. We also have a week in Norfolk booked but we booked that over a year ago and it was £980 then for a smart and up to date but not exactly luxurious 2 bed.

UK holidays reflect the price of UK property, not how exotic the destination is.
