An easier app for getting round London than citymapper?

I know this may sound daft but citymapper is too confusing. I need something more basic for a couple of days. Mainly for the train and tube.
Thanks

Just put location and destination into google maps and it tells you exactly which to jump on!

The TfL journey planner is pretty good too. You can select which type of public transport you want to use, and put in things like whether you need step free access. You have to use the TfL website though, it's not an actual app.

Google maps

City mapper is by far the best. Get someone to walk you thru it.

It is really simple. Put in end destination (and start if you aren't where you want to start from).

City Mapper then comes up with lots of different options and you can pick based on time, ease, walking distance, train v bus etc.

Pick one, and it gives you step by step directions e.g walk to tube (with a map). Get on tube and travel for 12 stops. Get off at exit 3 ono Hyde Park Corner. Walk to destination (with map).

Literally can't be easier.

I find city mapper much easier and accurate than google maps or TFL…

What problems are you having with CM?

LBOCS2 · 18/06/2021 11:16

CityMapper is by far the best app for it as it uses all the options. TFL is clunky and gets confused between the names of stops and the areas. Google maps isn't that accurate IMO.

What are you finding tricky with it?

Google Maps is the best.

I use Google maps and just a regular tube map. City mapper is helpful for telling you what exit to use etc but I found it confusing, don't remember why exactly as I haven't lived in London for a long time - I remember not getting in with it though.

Just google maps and a paper copy of the tube map because it's too fiddly looking at it on a phone. Google maps can take you anywhere. It is brilliant.

"Google maps isn't that accurate IMO."

It really is!

Google maps helped us find a microscopic cafe down four tiny winding alleys, definitely not intended for tourists when we were on holiday. DS had found out about it online and it was one of the most memorable evenings of our holiday. No way we'd have found it otherwise. The alleys had no names and all looked like dead ends. I've trusted it ever since.

LBOCS2 · 18/06/2021 16:17

Sorry, I should have clarified. It's super accurate as a map - it's brilliant and my go-to. I meant in terms of using it to navigate public transport, finding the best routes, etc. :)

PurpleBiro21 · 18/06/2021 17:50

I agree with the above - I use google maps for walking/driving, but it falls short on public transport which is when I use city mapper where the detail, accuracy and efficiency (as in routes) is much better.
