Do phone screens crack as much as they used to?

A few years ago I spent a fortune replacing screens on my, and my 2 teenagers' mobile phones. Since then we've always bought phone cases and screen covers. I've noticed they're starting to be a bit relaxed about dropping their phones, so far nothing has broken.

Are phones better than they used to be or have we been lucky so far? I do remind them to be careful, am trying to decide if I need to increase the reminding to a level they might call 'nagging'.

I'm pretty good at dropping and smashing phones. Currently have a smashed screen so ime nah, they aren't better and obviously neither are my hands.

My husband got a new phone two weeks ago.
He's already cracked the screen protector...

He's never managed to have a phone more than a few weeks without cracking the screen, hence the protector.

Ah well, I was hoping technology had improved. Back to being careful as I can't bear the helpless rage and resentment I feel when a screen breaks. Confused

iPhones seem to have stronger glass than Samsung.

We have 5 iPhones in this house. Owned by 9, 11, 14, and two adults. We've done one screen replacement in at least 6 years.

It's the tempered glass screen protectors I say. Before then DH and I had cracked or smashed ours once every couple of years. Once tempered glass protectors were the norm, the only breaks were the protectors, which I just replace.

And one of my breaks was when I ran over my iPhone 4 back in the day. No screen protector would have saved that even if tempered glass was a thing then.
