Citroen Cactus?

Does anyone have a Citroen Cactus??
I currently have a Citroen Picasso which has been brilliant-comfy, spacious, reliable, massive boot...just generally a great family car. DP has a new little city car and I have the old Mum car but it's getting really old so I've been looking at the Cactus, I love the look of it (only seen them in passing and photos online) and used to a digital speedometer now. Kids aren't fussed about having comfy seats and tbh I don't really need a massive boot anymore. I'm just worried after having such a handy practical car I'll miss things. Does anyone have a Citroen Cactus? Or would you recommend anything else. Budget is £8000 absolute max, but preferably closer to the £6/7000 mark.

My dh really fancied one (second hand) but was a bit disappointed in the drive when he tested it. He was further put off when he discussed it with our lovely local MOT and repair guy who said he'd had a few in with problems.
DH ended up with a Jeep Renegade (cos it's bright yellow and matches his kayak..men!) However our previous car was a Peugeot estate, and my daughter and son in law have just got a 14 plate one for 7k and it is fabulous. Loads of space, lovely drive (as was our old 09 plate one) and we never had any trouble with it. Both diesels and the MPG is incredible.. they go forever! My daughters is very fancy too (by my standards..I drive a Panda!) sat nav, heated seats etc etc. They are worth a look and there are a variety of middle to larger size estates in the range.

I have one, 2019 plate on PCP. DONT TO IT!

I had the car less than two years less than 6k on the clock, rattle coming from the clutch area, I thought fine it'll be under warranty. With all the lockdowns etc it took the MONTHS to get it in for diagnoses. When they did they said it was something to do with a reverse gear and they will contact Citroen UK re the warranty, took them AGES to get back to me but when they did they suddenly decided that it was my fault and it was no longer under warranty and they wanted £600 PLUS VAT to take it apart and look. I told then to fook off! Politely.

The problem isn't reverse, its first and second as it has now started popping out of 1st gear when you take off, this is random and happens when you least expect.

I have had enough and am waiting until the end of the year when I can send the damn thing back.

Their aftercare and customer service are shocking!

Thanks for your replies!

@StillMedusa Ah, are Peugeot's generally quite reliable then? I've seen the 2008 which looks quite nice and family friendly too.

@Dogmum2017 Oh no, that's awful!

How about Nissan, are they good? Nissan Juke or Qashqui?

I had a Nissan Micra and loved it.. drove it well into 120k before I changed it.. lovely small car. My dog walker has a Qashquai and it's got a great boot.. I think they are generally reliable .
Yes the 2008 is a nice car. I believe Peugeots used to have a reputation for being french crap (to be blunt) but in our 7 years of ownership we never had any trouble... we only changed cars because we gave it to my daughter and son in law as they were having a baby... and unfortunately hit a huge badger on the way to hospital in labour... so it's currently waiting to be repaired and son in laws parents went out and got them the newer car as an instant replacement!

Deffo not the juke if you have kids, ours is referred to as the reverse tardis…it looks like it should hold 4 people comfortably but it just doesn’t.

The Peugeot 2008 is nice, we had a 508 estate that was lovely to drive as well.

We had a cactus when we hired a car in the canaries a few years back, DH did not like it at all, and he isn’t usually fussy over cars. Wouldn’t recommend one.

Peugeot is his favourite now, had a 307, 2008 and currently drives a new 3008. Go for a Peugeot OP. DH loves them, he’s had loads of cars over the years inc luxury brands and now always has Peugeot.

I had one for a couple of years. By the end I really disliked it. I found the visibility pulling out of junctions was poor, the door frame seemed to always get in the way. It took a lot of persuading to get it to overtake anything, it liked to just lumber along. Great size boot but there was a big lip to it which made putting heavy things in a pain. Seats were comfy but the lack of opening windows in the back was an issue (according to DC).

I wanted to love it and I tried but it just was a bit dull. I hated having to rely on it to tell me when to change gear too (no rev meter).

Try test driving one (can you do that with Covid?) for a decent length of time and see what you think.

@MythsandSparkles "reverse tardis" Grin
I was hoping it'd be the other way round, it looks small so if it's even smaller than it looks on the inside Confused

How about these:
Renault Captur
Fiat 500L

Or any other recommendations?
We will be hopefully buying this weekend so need to find something by the end of the week. I keep looking at used cars online but can't find anything I like as much as the Cactus (but definitely not going for that now).

I have one and I love it! 2016 plate and no problems (have probably just jinxed that)

VeniVidiWeeWee · 22/06/2021 01:58

Take a test drive in a Cactus?
