Sporn alert - boil in groin - do they always need a GP?

Huge lump in my groin - it’s about the size of a cherry tomato . Squishy; with a head on it but won’t burst despite trying . It’s sort of between the fatty bit and my leg iyswim . It isn’t sore in the slightest - just huge, but I’m feeling a bit fluey, headache, dizzy, shivery, tired . No fever (checked) . Do these things always need a GP? I’m dithering over trying to pop it with a needle ...

I have had a few and not needed to see a gp, a very hot compress helps (as hot as you can handle without it burning your skin), I also use magnesium sulphate paste. I had a nasty one very close to my bottom a few years ago, it was agony. Luckily I haven’t had one for quite a while. I think the fact I eat way too much sugar doesn’t help.

Am now on flucloxacillin; penicillin, mag sulphate and dressings to keep the area clean . I think this is a warning sign that I need to seriously try to get my weight down .

When I read your op, I thought it might be an abscess too.

When dd had hers as a baby, she had to have it "popped" and drained out under general anaesthetic.

Will you be able to get away with antibiotics alone?
I hope it clears up soon.

Very common with diabetes and high blood sugar. Be careful and try to get down to a healthy weight.

The boils can reoccur and can infected, had a relative in hospital having to have one cut out, she nearly got sepsis from it, so worth knowing how serious it can get.
